I purchased a Yaesu FT101EE at a Ham Fest. It was the first radio I used being a member of the amateur radio club.

It powers up, but no sound, which seems to be a common problem. I bought this to learn and be a long term project. You really need to know how to maintain these antique radios.

I have a little electronics background, but was looking for resources user groups, etc on how to get started troubleshooting the sound issue. I have watched a few videos.

The PO IC ALC switch next to the meter for example doesn’t switch, it moves freely. I would like to Skype with someone just to make sure all the knobs are set before testing for the first time,

Thanks!

Congrats on your purchase, that was a top-of-the-line radio at one time. I had an FT101E years ago, bougtht used just like you, did a realignment to get it back to factory specs.

First off, get the operators manual, that'll have what initial settings you need. It might be available free on-line. Read it through.

You'll get plenty of responses, this is a great site. Good luck and hope you solve the problem.

Do you have a Speaker attached to it ? I don't remember these having built in internal speakers.

Thanks everyone!

I have some stereo headphones.

I have a 1/8 to 1/4” adapter but it is stereo. I probably need to get a stereo to mono adapter.
Maybe it will play on just one side.
You'll hear only one side but it's good enough for detecting audio.
