I called Universal Radio, they sent me a shipping label and a new radio. It should be here by next week sometime.

Universal Radio does have the BEST customer service out there. You actually get to talk to a person, not a robot!

First thing I would look at is the voltage and amperage. Actually take some samples with the radio turned on. Had a similar issue (not with the wind noise) but the flickering and lack of transmission, and finally figured out that I was not getting enough amps to the radio, therefore the radio was heating up and having issues. As soon as I corrected this issue, the radio was working fine.

Got that fixed a long long time ago. Works fine now... I love my Vertex's.
