You know what's disturbing? K-449 is the only Trooper 10-8 covering Osage, Payne and Pawnee Counties this morning, and he is having to respond 60+ miles to work an accident.

i know that most of the troopers assigned to Troop L is covering the turnpike. we have one OHP officer covering washington county. and granted that the county isnt very big, but sometimes they have to go from the southern end of the county to the northern end, which i guess isnt bad but they have to go through town and sometimes the drivers here dont know what flashing red and blue lights mean.
and with the Wal Mart distrobution center that was built south of Bartlesville, we really need more patrolling that area.

Disturbing? That's par for the course. OHP has been short staffed for years. Maybe people will start thinking beyond that and ask themselves WHY they are short staffed. :)

hope he's in a charger ;)

+1, I noticed yesterday that Trinity Restorations has about 25+ BLack Chargers that they are adding the white paint to. We should start to see a lot of them around here shortly!

OHP troopers seen on 117 miles of turnpike =1

MHP troopers seen on 20 miles of Missouri backroads = 8

OHP short Handed

OR could it be they sent 80 o/o from state wide to Lawton on a man hunt and with the overtime they accuired. It ends up nobody working. I noticed this last week that one night i thought something was wrong with my scanner, the was little if a traffic for 2 days on OHP .

Not to be off topic but the short staffing covers almost all the departments not just OHP but I agree they are short staffed as well. They are a great organization just wish the state would let go some money and let them hire more. That also goes with the other departments not wanting to let go the money or they just don't have it to start with. The sad thing not only the officers safety but the citizens safety as well is in jeopardy with the short staffing issues facing law enforcement here in the State of Oklahoma.

Just my thoughts.....

Didn't I just hear on KRMG that the state is running a surplus for the first time in many years? Why are we always so far behind our neighbors?

Why does Missouri have some many troopers while we have so few?
Why does Arkansas have such better radios while we're so far behind?
Why do people in poor Kansas small towns know how to use lawn mowers and show community pride while poor Oklahomans just know how to look poor?

I love our state. I really do. But, geez. Sometimes I really wonder.

Maybe it has something to do with us being such a young state compared to our neighbors. Maybe we were stunted by the lower economic scale of the land run families. Maybe the indians cursed the land before we rolled them for it (in some way other than cursing us with casinos, I mean).

Any guesses?

I do believe that I see more troopers on Kilpatrick/Turner Turnpikes than I do anywhere else. That is most likely because the turnpikes are paying extra for them. I would venture to say that without the Troop X/Y guys we would have a shortage that makes the current situation look like a surplus.

It is true though. Crime and population growth in many cities has extended the current day officers beyond what many of them can safely handle. I just hope that no one has to get hurt to prove the point.
