Lots of trouble with York Region Police tonight. The dispatchers are telling units that they are in their backup center and therefore all units must identify who they are when they are calling in. Any info? What's the backup center?
Hi-Tech communications was on the radio earlier asking to speak to the comms supervisor in relation to the downtime, all I can assume since Hi-Tech does networking and voice comms, is that they are either upgrading or repairing something that is taking the whole comm center offline

They've got a second location on the opposite side of town originally part of emergency/disaster/terrorist planning. They use it once or twice a year to make sure the basics work but they also use it during equipment changeovers. Last I heard there is minimal MWS service at the backup. RH fire dspatch shares equipment at this location for the same purpose.
My guess is that the backup centre just has regular radios (MCS2000's, I think) as backup, much like the radios that each fire comm centre has sitting at each desk, in case the consoles go down. They wouldn't have any MWS' there either.
The backup centre, last I heard, was down in the Yonge/407 area.
I guess having worked for VFRS for 6 years now (2 as a dispatcher and 4 as a firefighter) and listening to York's system since it was built will give you this knowledge.
