Has anyone setup a zello stream with a rasberry pi?

Would you be willing to share the equipment used and programming information?

I would recommend one with an ethernet port on it, so you don't have to deal with wifi congestion/latency/dropped packets or nonsense. You can stream simple things reliably from even the Pi 1 Model B. There are supply chain issues, so I would try whatever you can get your hands on currently.

A pi3 or pi4 would be adequate. If you are going to try to run trunk recorder with an sdr stick you want a pi4. Otherwise, with a regular stream from a scanner you will need a usb sound card. The cheap ones on Amz or eBay work well.
Set it up with RealVNC remote access and skip the keyboard and monitor.

Your inquiry got me experimenting. I have a handful of pi1 around. I imaged a card with Raspbian Lite and loaded zellostream on a pi1. It appears to be a no-go as pavucontrol is needed and that requires the gui. I will try again with the full Raspbian on the pi1. It will likely be quite slow.

with all that said, setting up zellostream on a pi will be challenging for a newbie. Not hard to do, but there are some hurdles to cross.

Any recommendations on a sound card? I think I'm going to get the PI 4. We are going to be using this to monitor life flight communications at my work

Don't spend much more than $10 on a sound card. All you are going to get is mono audio. You don't need any bells and whistles. They just make it more difficult to set up. Search Amazon for usb sound card, then click the under $25 button.

I had missed the following note from Andy. Using pulse as source may well work without the GUI.

To use on a Pi, set the audio input device to "pulse". Pulse audio will do the sample rate conversion. If you're using more than one USB sound card you may need to use pavucontrol or another method to specify which pulse audio source to use with voxcall, but if only using one USB sound card, simply setting "pulse" as the audio input device should do the trick.

Use the legacy app with VOX audio control on your computer's mic input, and you can set up a stream for free. That's how I host my dept's unofficial one.
