Does anyone here manage a system with a Zetron Max dispatch console. I am trying to figure out if a .WAV file can be uploaded into the console for 2 tone dispatch tones. we currently have our 2 tone pair being used for our dispatch but are trying to add an additional tone after the 2 tone. How are the different tones for each departments alert tones programmed into this console, are they just created inside the console software itslef or are .WAV/.MP3 files uploaded for each one.
Yes, you can attach a sound file to be played after paging tones are sent, but they're pretty particular as far as file parameters. If I recall correctly it has to be 8kHz, 16-bit format. Also if you're pushing the tone through a P25 radio, the tone frequencies need to be something the radio recognizes or it will sound awful. For example, the normal steady alert tone is 1000 Hz; I had to create a new file using 1006.9 (a standard paging tone frequency), which sounds fine. At only 6.9 Hz higher, no one notices the difference. Ditto the alternating tone alert, although I don't recall what tone frequencies and timing I used for that one.
Also, we had to implement a new paging tone plan when we switched to P25. Some of the agencies used lower-frequency tones which P25 radios did not handle well because they're too close to the lower cutoff of the normal voice frequency range; radios (and P25 pagers) sometimes garbled them. We also wanted to implement an 8-second countywide all-call, so we got two birds with one stone.
