Hello,

I noticed SOPs for some centers are available on-line and some are not. I found one for A90 (Boston) but it does not list the Boston Approach West frequency. A pilot's guide does not list it either. It is alittle confusing as Boston and Manchester (NH) Tracons merged and "Boston Approach" goes up about 100 miles into central NH.

I am using my recently purchased AOR 5000 and Avcom 42A to search the air band.and build up a local Boston frequency list. It is amazing that on both Voice and ACARS I can get Aircraft in the NYC area and even in NJ. If only I could get my receiving antenna up to 20,000 feet or more.

I am currently listing to 128.300 with Aircraft calling New York. The Aircraft are around 22 thousand feet and one mentioned MANTA as a location. Doing some searching I saw a post that 128.3 is a backup frequency for Sector #66 Manta. Manta is shown in the New York Center Low Altitude Charts.

I have heard several other New York Frequencies like 125.325 JFK Sector High, and 127.125 East Texas Sector High, I am sure if I listen around I can pick up others.

I'm getting high altitude traffic on 134.9, 135.2, and 135.225. These freqs are listed as NY TRACON, but TRACON doesn't cover those altitudes, and I'm pretty sure that 135.225 is actually ZBW now.

Eric,
I think that most of the on-line SOPs that are found on line are actually for VATSIM, the Virtual Air Traffic Control Simulation Network, a very professional appearing and well run group, but none the less, the SOPs are not the actual FAA ones and so don't have all the information...

Hello,

I wonder if there is some lift on as I am getting NY Appoach JFK Rober Sector on 125.7.

Yeah I saw some of those sites but there are other sites that have real information unless they simulate unions as well. You have to dig. I found a site but it was out west and of little interest.

Pilots guide to A90 Boston Tracon

I noticed the sectors are numbered and wonder at what level they are unique.

Hello,

A tip I want to pass along (although maybe everyone knows this) is if the sector has a three letter name then you can look it up through the ICAO identifier. I put a K in front of the name and use it as a search term in google along with term ICAO. So for LHY I would search google for KLHY ICAO. KLHY is Lake Henry, a navaid near Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Most of the searches wind up using this site.
https://www.notams.jcs.mil/common/icao/USA.html

This also works for airports so JFK has the ICAO indentifier of KJFK.
