Doing the IOS 8 update on my iPad. So I have been typing on my touch. Sorry for all the mistakes. RARE FIND earlier, lots of radio checks. Just heard REACH 550 calling any station for check 0020 UT. Several SKY KING messages also. All on 8.992.

Everything and equipment varies. I have a sputnik with vines growing on it hooked to a R-20 and R- 71 hanging inside. Has been busy.

8.992 was pretty good for me last night. Lots of traffic , though some of it was weak from my location. Probably has more to do with my equipment. At least I got to log RARE FIND!

GHFS Recent Activity Update

UPDATE ON GHFS ACTIVITY - 1250 UTC 18 Sept 2014

Learning through other sources than a number of USAF assets are being mobilized across CONUS for movement to Mideast in support of published DOD activity in Iraq and Syria theaters. Rumored that most command activity is originating out of USCENTCOM in Florida. Mobilization is underway now, this probably accounts for at least some of the increased traffic activity across the GHFS channels and sites.

As observed by other members, here, USAF tanker activity is on the rise, supporting the theory that other assets (aircraft) may be in the process of mobilization and/or repositioning. This is all a guess, but logical! The solar flare last week affecting HF radio communications, is no longer a factor.

If information is correct, it is likely GHFS activity will continue at higher than normal levels for a while.

Is anyone aware of the physical location of station "Red River"? If you know, can you reply or post here, thanks. BTW do NOT think it is Barksdale AFB, La as previously mentioned elsewhere.

Have a good day listening to the world!

You heard these guys from the UK? I'm guessing via remote? Also how do you determine who is the E-6, B-2 or B-52?

Why don't you think RED RIVER is Barksdale? I had a B-52 the other day from Barksdale making contact with RED RIVER. I have logged similar contacts from the bomber wing in the past.

Red River

Thanks for the note, well it does make sense to me since the Red River darn near runs across the west edge of the field, however I have several people post on this site that Barksdale AFB is NOT the Red River call-sign.

I also have heard B-52 call-signs calling Red River, which also makes sense since of bunch of them are based there, 8th Air Force, 2nd Bombardment Wing & 307th Bomb Wing.

I just hate details like this that I cannot verify. Any ideas how to find out for sure? Somebody associated with Radio Reference is bound to know for sure!

Plenty of Activity on GHFS Today

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

USAF GHFS has been busy today (9-24). 11.175 came alive around 0000Z and has been sporadically busy all morning, at least so far.

Recent stations:

Puerto Rico Global
Andrews
BOLT 32
Variable - for DSN phone patch - QSY to 11.220 (not in my list)
REACH 125
Offut AFB
Red River
Lockheed 5760 (new one for me)

Most messages today, except radio checks, in coded groups with authentication packages.

Increased activity heard today over the last few days. Atmospheric conditions are good, no local static (thunderstorms) and A & K indices are good.

Just heard DTMF tones, followed by an automated voice: "the parameters will be applied to the transmitter and receiver", followed by more DTMF tones.

USAF GHFS Update 9/25/14

Message traffic on GHFS is at about normal levels this morning. Overnight traffic was sparse.

Stations recently heard: (about 0125Z)

- Offutt

- Red River - radio ck with SKULL 27 (sounded airborne)

- Some station performing maintenance, tones and tune up messages heard over 11.175. (This was a system error) Tune up messages originated from Rockwell-Collins URG-III system. Transmitter re-tuned to 15.011 MHz. (interesting)

- Puerto Rico
