I have one that I'll probably sell... When I get off my butt to take some pictures of it..

I use the USB only.. What are advantages of the serial?

A couple month's back I saw the serial cable on Clearance at the RS website. As far as I know, The 20-047 USB cable is still available.

I saw the same thing just yesterday, the one with the DB9 connector, right. It was some crazy price like 2.99 or something. I should go back and get one for that price, you never know when you might need it!

I'm not talking about the 20-289 serial cable. That was discontinued months ago. I'm talking about the 20-047 USB scanner programming cable.

In this post it was mentioned at a Radio Shack store that the 20-047 USB cabel has been discontinued:

i know the difference, but gcgrotz mentioned the serial one so i thought i would throw in my two cents ...

Well I went to my local Radio Shack store today, had the sales person scan it, and it was not on clearance. I wonder if not all stores have it as clearance. This store had seven in stock.

I did get a discount on it using the employee discount cupon, however.

in his subject and his statement in post #6, he says 20-047, which is this :

USB Scanner Programming Cable

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2177609&cp

which is on clearance for $1.97

I disagree, it is not on clearance. If it were:

A. The Web site would show it on clearance
B. It would be reflected at all stores.
C. They do incremental price decreases, it wouldn't drop straight to 1.97

I'm not doubting he got one for $1.97 but it was some kind of fluke as they are not on clearance.

Two people, at different locations, have been able to get it at this price. I'm not totally convinced. Why would it be $1.97?

I have been to 4 different RS stores in the last week and all rang up regular price. Maybe the members that are getting them on closeout could buy them all and start a group buy for the rest of us :)

My guess is that someone put up the wrong tag on the item, and then had to honor the price when it rang up at the wrong price.

I just got the cable last night when I picked up a Pro-97 at a local Radio Shack in Northern NJ. I had the Friends and Family 30% off coupon. Pro-97 was on sale for $150 so 30% off brought it to $105. The USB cable was priced on the shelf at $29.99 but rang up for $1.97 and then the 30% off coupon brought it to a whopping $1.38. On the receipt, the item is listed as Scanner Prog Cable.
