• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello Everyone,
My original set up has not changed much since this post. With the original setup, I had a BCD436HP (Since, upgraded to an SDS100) mounted on a Panavise Indash mount and mic clip. I noticed the vibration loosened the mount screw on the scanner and I was constantly having to tighten it. I then switched to a leather carry case with the D-Clip. My issue with that, is that it would sag, and the scanner would face downward. I am no longer wanting to use a portable scanner in this vehicle and have decided to use the panavise mount for a quadlock mount for my cellphone.
I am wanting to mount an SDS200 in the center dash bin as I already have the coax and power ran there. My only concern is the Texas heat. If anyone has any idea's or recommendations I would be greatly appreciative.

I, personally, would not put it up on the dash in the sun/heat. Have you considered the center console (i.e. part where you rest your arm)? I've seen a few people mount a scanner in there and then just have a speaker under the seat or dash, pointed appropriately. Just a thought. Otherwise, your options are limited for the size of a SDS200 in that truck, I agree. I'm sure that's why you were considering the bin on the dash.

I did consider this for a brief second, there certainly is plenty of room. I went away from this idea due to losing the display and being able to control the scanner without having to lift up the console and look down. If money wasn't a factor, I'd replace the entire console with a Havis and have full control heads for all radio's.

Understood. Was just throwing it out as an option. I do recall seeing an install...I think it was in a Ford Raptor...and he was using an old phone and the Siren app to control his scanner. Not sure if it was a 200 (may have been a 536...does Siren work with the 200?) but he mounted the phone up overhead on the ceiling and the scanner was tucked away out of sight. Again, just an idea. Might not be what you'd want to go with or may not fit your vision.

I've got an SDS 200 in a 2020 Lariat center console. It is inconvenient to open/close the lid to make volume adjustments etc. But as time goes along, it is tolerable.

I had a 536 with a decommissioned iPhone and the Siren app. No volume control though. Only plus was being able to see a display. But I grew up in olden days when there wasn't any kind of displays on a scanner.

I've read elsewhere in this forum about using something like a Raspberry Pi and ProScan for remote control. But I'm not confident enough in my technical skills to make the plunge.
