996T and 996XT 700 MHz problems

Are you using Uniden Scanners and if so have you noticed any problems with 700MHz

I have posted several posts to the Johnson County Kansas forum but I am still having some problems with scanning out new 700 MHz systems. I download each city from radio reference and assign it to a quick key. They are all set to SCAN mode vs. SEARCH and this solved an earlier problem of bleed over. The problem now is that I can’t seem to pick anything up. Even with squelch adjusted properly, the scanner misses about 75 percent of the transmissions that take place even though there may be 3 or 4 reception bars showing for signal strength. I’m using freescan to program but have also used Butel and experienced the same problem. Switching to SEARCH instead of SCAN will allow more transmissions but there is significant bleed over from everywhere.

Just an overview of how my scanner is set up, I have several cities set up on quick keys in the Kansas City Kansas area. Lenexa on QK1, Shawnee on QK2, Kansas Highway Patrol on QK3, Overland Park on QK4, Kansas City KS on QK6, Kansas City MO on QK6...and so on.

Any help here will be great. Just FYI, most folks scanning in our area, especially in the new Johnson County 700 system, are using Radio Shack scanners and having very good success with them.

Not that this would help but I have a 700 system in my area and the Unidens work great with them. I imported your system using FreeScan and Win500 to see if there were any differences. I didn’t see any except free scan imported all the channels were I told Win500 to import the control channels only. Do you have them all loaded on the 996’s? What antenna are you running on your radios? Also I see your tag shows you have a Pro-197. How is it working on the site?

We are using Comtelco Low Profile mobile antennas. I do have a PRO 197 that is currently loaned out but running both scanners side by side there is no comparison. The 197 doesn't miss a thing. The problem is that our department has already purchased and installed around 100 996XTs and so far we have not been able to get Uniden to even take a look at our problems. And they are not isolated to us alone. Most departments in the JOCO area went with Uniden because we had such good luck prior to our digital switch.
Anyway, thanks for the quick response. Hopefully something can get worked out. I attached our scanner file in a .zip format if you would like to take a look at it. I'm at a loss on where or what to do next.

Try this file. I made changes to JCSO only. Let me know how it works. On way to work but will have access once I'm there. I did see a few issues. System 0 is enabled for right now.

I looked at your file and I can see why you’re having so many issues. I could type a long list of reason why you’re having issues but if you would like to talk on the phone, I can help you fix the problems. I will PM you my phone number. For now test the file I attached above and let me know. I only worked System 0 (JCSO).
