Just noticed that City wide fire and joint ops are being used instead of the normal Main and Engelwood Channels? Wonder what is going on? Thanks

They've been having numerous problems with the current radio system for months now. Portables breaking up, mobiles not working etc. Whether this has anything to do with them going over to the P25 trunking system I don't know

First the Alarm Terminals and MDC's went down all day and they were dispatching companies via the radio, now the "reoccurring" issues..Fire-Englewood and EMS Englewood went down and are using Fire-Citywide and Joint OPS. They told EMS Englewood to switch to U-Metro 4 but companies were complaining it was too scratchy to hear so decided to use Joint OPS. So far Main companies are on the normal channels..

Not sure about MDC's and FA terminals, but could the enhanced conditions on Vhf and UHF these last few weeks have anything to do with it?
I did make a contact on 70cm FM to Arkansas a week or so ago and have heard stations from Michigan easily here in Dwight.
Just a thought.

Not really sure why this has been happening more frequently as of late, but when they transition to the OEMC trunking system "hopefully" it won't happen anymore.

And like a broken record, all companies on Fire Englewood were just told to switch to Citywide Fire...

I think it's definitely them going to the digital trunking side

This is only conjecture, but I heard that the proposed *new system* will cost in the billions of dollars, of which the City doesn't know where those funds may be coming from; Possibly grants?

"New system"? If you're referring to the current city P25 trunking system, it's been up and running for quite awhile now. Most of it is encrypted CPD talkgroups and airports, but these talkgroups have been confirmed during testing, but not in use yet. Portable radios have been programmed with the new Zones which is mentioned in the above thread.

This is becoming a dangerous situation now. They switched to Citywide Fire, then discovered the portables were still not working, then went to Joint Ops and portables still aren't working. I'm not sure what the delay is, but the trunking system would be a benefit here.

***All companies "on the air" for any drilling purpose are being told to return to quarters due to radio issues. All drilling has been cancelled because of radio issues***
