My desktop (in fact a Dell) is loaded with Win 10 (unfortunately). It will not let me load Sentinel. Like the guy above who uses Win 11 it tells me that NET 2.0 is not loaded (my computer says otherwise. Downloaded the NET 3.8 (or whatever the F it is) but when I try to load says it's already there. After trying multiple times (thus I guess proving the insanity thing) it still will not allow me to load Sentinel.
Very Frustrating. Googled all sorts of things, but it says it already has all of that, yet it will not load.
I hate Windows 10!!!!!!!! Frustrating thing was it was loaded over my objection when 7 failed and the IT guy did it anyway. At least it's on the laptop, yet it's difficult to use and all of the radios are right at the desk. LIke I said, frustrating.

Are you saying that you can't install the Sentinel software on your computer, or that Sentinel is already on your computer but it won't start?

DotNet is a weird animal. Install 2.x or 3.5 and it should work fine. Higher numbered versions of DotNet do not always incorporate older frameworks. I don't know about 3.8 but 3.5 does work for Sentinel. Install 3.5, restart the computer and then install Sentinel.

Of course you can install it on Win 7. What errors are you getting, and what are you trying to install?

In Windows go to…..

Control Panel --> Programs and features --> Turn Windows features on or off (in the upper left corner)

Once that window populates, click in the box that says ".NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)”, and .NET 4.8.....

Click OK, and they will be installed. Then Sentinel will install on that computer.

You need net 2 framework.

Go to your start menu->control panrl->programs and features

On the left you will see Turn Windows Features On or Off

Select that and tur. ON. . NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 (INCLUDES. NET 2.0 AND 3.0)

Fill the checkbox, let windows do it's thing, reboot, Sentenial will now run.

Ok, it must be 3.5. Did you miss that it tells me it is already in there. This is the better one which supposedly includes 2.0.
So to recap; Sentinel will not install, says needs NET2.0, trying to load the 3.5 (or what the F ever it is) indicates it is already loaded after downloading it multiple times; yet once again trying to install Sentinel says no workee.
Followed all of the advice found on threads I saw; all google related incidents of NET framework. Still NADA.

I have three Dell pc’s, all running Win10 and two running Sentinel. I believe if you install right .net framework it will work.

If you mean just use NET 2.0 it won't let me do it, goes to 3.5 (or whatever the F it is). do not understand "right .net framework" otherwise and it doesn't work either.

When you follow the directions in post #7 and get to the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" window shown below, look at where the red arrow is pointing. Is that box checked like the one shown below when you look at it? If not, click on that box and then click "OK" at the bottom of that window.

It seems like some users are missing this part about not downloading anything from Microsoft or elsewhere and that's probably where things get messed up.
If they just did the Turn Windows features on or off method first like in your screenshot, they would likely be fine unless their computer is already borked from something else or even from various Malware.

I've never had an issue with Win 10 when I needed .NET 2.0 using the built in Turn Windows features on or off feature.
Even though it says .NET 3.5, read further like shown and it also says: (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0). Pretty simple really.

As previous posts here - (and probably has been posted monthly for a few years now).....

By going to Control Panel --> Programs and features --> Turn Windows features on or off. By checking the box shown above in post #14, .NET Framework 3.5 (Included .NET 2.0 and 3.0) Windows will do everything (download and install) for you.

Just do the above. This is the fix for your problem in any modern version of Windows. Don't worry about actually downloading anything - or what version. Most of the other above posts are Red Herrings!!!

Just do the Turn Windows features on or off as shown above!!!!

Did it.....Nada. Please don't talk down to me. Clearly you have not read what I've said or you would know I've tried these things and saying it's been posted MONTHLY for years doesn't help anyone, just shows you really don't want to help, just make a scene. I'm not impressed. I'm looking for help and think others are really trying to assist me (thank you all).

I've been at the hobby for over 50 years, and worked with computers since DOS. But WIN10 is an abomination to me and is not remotely intuitive, and with it I struggle I freely admit. With that however, I think you could be more charitable.

Sounds like you have a failed installation of Win 10 if you are having the issues as you describe. I'd check your hardware and reinstall the OS and dotnet, as much as you hate it. Sentinel works without issue for the vast majority of users, thus the problem lies with either your hardware or your configuration. This is not to talk down to you; it is trying to help you realize where your issue lies. And BTW, Windows 10 is rock solid on modern hardware.

Check the integrity of your Windows 10 installation by doing the following:

Under Windows System in the menu, right click on Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator".

In the command window that opens, type the following command: SFC /Scannow

Then run another command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If you have a Windows integrity problem, one of those commands might fix your problem.

Another possibility is the "user.config" file corrupted.
