I sent my 7 year old 436 into Uniden two years ago for repair. Now I'm seeing what looks like dust under the display screen, looks like circles, about 12 of them so far.

Should I attempt to open it up and clean it, or would it be smarter to leave it alone.

Depends on your skill level for taking apart electronics. I have done it a few times over the years and it’s not that bad to do.

The 436 is easy to get apart to clean it...

What type of repair was done on your 436? Could the circles be spots of some type of lubricant that may have been used that has collected dust over time? Also, google "camera lens fungus" and see if any of the resulting pictures look like your 436 screen.

I used the video to do this a couple of years ago and I had no problems fallowing the video and cleaning the dust on the screen. Take your time and don't rush.

Just a note...
In your reassembly, you put the keyboard contact pad in backwards... The black conductive pads should face you...
I noticed in the video that the pad was put in backwards, I was sure to put it in the correct way.

I was thinking about ordering a new screen from Uniden while they are still available. Is it easy to get the old one out without damaging the case?

I have never replaced the front "lense" (It does magnify slightly)... I believe it uses a double sided tape to hold it in place though...
Might be little tricky removing the old one... Shouldn't be to bad though...
