GRAND COUNTY – A 31-year-old man from Minnesota was rescued on Monday after he was buried by an avalanche near Grand Lake.

The avalanche was in the Arapahoe National Forest around 11 a.m.

Snowmobilers told the Grand County Sheriff's Department they watched the snow slide bury a man on another snowmobile on Gravel Mountain.

The other snowmobilers immediately rushed to start digging Shannon Christensen out of the snow.

He was unconscious when rescuers got him out and was buried for about five minutes.

He woke up as rescuers worked to warm him up, according to deputies.

Christensen was taken down the trail and then to a clinic to be treated for a dislocated shoulder.
