Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi everyone. First of all, let me say that I'm 100% a rookie a noob on Harris radios. I'm not here looking for programing but knowledge on how to access crucial information on how to communicate with the radio. I want to know how to read the Feature code list and How to bypass the " need program" " Program Locked"

Probably doesn't have feature turned on in menu options. and someone was cute programming a channel called needs programmed. So you need a cable and the RPM software to program it with your profile.

Ya, get a serial cable and read the program into RPM and there will likely be a channel in a conventional set called NEEDES… that’s not standard Harris verbiage… Or, just create a personality with the channels you want in RPM and blow it into the radio.

If the feature menu is in the programmable menu list of the loaded personality, you hit menu and then scroll through the menus until you find ‘features’, press menu again and you should see some pages of two digit numbers. Snap a photo of each page or write them down so you can correlate them to various features. If the feature menu is not enabled in the current personality, you’ll need to create a XG100M/CH721 personality. The feature menu is included by default in a new personality so just add a frequency you are licensed for to a conventional set, then add that set to a conventional system. Save it, then write it. This should also get rid of the ‘needs program’ business…

Thanks for your quick reply. I currently have one of this model and 15 of MAMW-SDXX..... I'm assuming that all units will have that "Need Programing" message. These Radios were county Property and their tech is responsible for the radio's current Behavior. Now I need to know the name of the software to communicate with the units .

Thanks n3obl for the help. I ran across this screen maybe I should have posted it with my previous one. Today, while downloading numerous manuals for the radio I found Keypad lock .. then I realize the previous tech must have locked the Menu also. So how do I get this menu Unlock so I can browse the menu. I strongly believe this is my main issue

For portable, press the "M" (menu) button and within 1 second, press the top side button.
For mobile CH-721 press "MENU" and within 1 second press the "FEA1" button. (top rightmost button)
This works as a toggle to lock or unlock the keyboard.
If "features" are not already programmed in the menu, you need the programming setup with at least RPM 10 to turn on that function.
