Hello,

My name is Scott, I'm from the Halifax area and after a lot of reading a research, decided to go with the GRE PSR500. I ordered it about 5 minutes ago complete with rechargeable batteries, wall charger and car charger :D. I have been sifting through the other forums, but I am not sure what software to use when it gets here in about a week.

Goals:

1. To listen to Police, Fire, EHS.
2. To pick up anything else if I can.

My background:

- Computer IT/Technician
- 25 years old

Learning curve on the software does not have to be easy, I'd rather it have a few hurdles here and there to get me used to it. I want to basically get everything set up and learn it so when the scanner arrives I am good to go.

Any recommendations? I know it does come with software/USB cable etc. Just curious if there is better software out there and what channels are good for Halifax/Dartmouth area.

Thanks so much,

Scott

Welcome to the RadioReference.COM (RR) Club!

While your PSR-500 is in transit, go pick up Win500 @ Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control

You should also become a Premium Subscriber here @ RR to get database access from the software. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/subscription/

You can make a programming file for the interim and load it up after the delivery guy drops it off to ya ;-)

Halifax EHS/PD/FD are all on this system http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=3627

I won't lie and tell you the software is easy... but sure beats programming by hand. Coming from a IT background, you'll figure it out after a couple weeks.
