To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Henry C100D10R Amplifier for DMR

I have a Henry C100D10R. It says that the mode is specifically for FM. I can’t find any UHF DMR amplifiers that are 100 W or higher, but I do have this one. Does anyone know if these amplifiers will work for DMR?

I know that DMR transmitters are rapidly switching on and off, but I don’t know if that makes a difference to the amplifier.

I would recommend Not using a Amplifier on Dmr. In most cases you won't need one. But Yes, basically any FM Amplifier will work on Dmr as long as it's designed for the band the repeater is on.

I’ve tried several amplifiers on DMR and only two I have work and they are expensive military amps. It seems the keying circuit is a big problem and many amps will not key reliably causing T/R relays to chatter or not switch at all. I’m not sure about the actual amplifier itself having an impact on the signal as most VHV/UHF amps run class C and are not linear. With that I would not expect the Henry to work but you should certainly test it and report back.

I think an FM amplifier should work on a DMR repeater station because the repeater transmitter is constant envelope?

DMR is FSK and doesn’t seem to have any amplitude component so a class C amp for FM should work, but many will not key up with a DMR signal. Possibly due to the low duty cycle and lower average power that fools the keying circuit.

Simple enough to take a PTT or keyed A+ from the station and fool the relay in the amplifier.

I have two kenwood branded TPL amplifiers that I use on my commercial IPSC with no problem on XPR repeaters. We also have no problems using Crescend PA’s on SLR and Kairos repeaters.

That’s because the repeater transmits on both timeslots, so it doesn’t have the “pulsed” signal.
