To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have the hex edited RSS and hardware to program low band Genesis Radios, but If I come across an old VHF Genesis radio would the same RSS work on high band? Or would I need to somehow find a high band-specific RSS?
Also, are high band Genesis radios with the 146-162 MHz band split able to be programmed up to receive NOAA Weather Radio or down to 144 MHz?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

When you say "Genesis" radios, there were:
HT600/P200 (same family of RSS) and controllers
MT1000 (uses different RSS) and different controllers
As far as bandsplits for VHF there were:
136-150.8
146-162
157-174

The 136-150.8 will do the ham band natively. Doubt the VCO will lock on 162MHz. These radios aren't very wideband.
The 146-162 needed your hex modification, they should RX NOAA just fine
The 157-174 is useless on anything below about 153MHz.

You can try the old shift key method. This worked on the maxtrac/radius lines. To enter in 162.550 type !^@.%%)). Hold the shift key while entering in the number characters, release for the decimal point.

The only other option is to locate the band limits in the CPS and hex edit.

The RSS versions I have on an old computer is used to program two lowband MT1000's (one for 10 meters and one that goes up to 52 MHz) and a single lowband P200 that I have on 6 meters. Since I've never had a high band Genesis would I need a different RSS file (HT600/P200 or MT1000) to program a high band radio?

Also, are you saying that I would need to hex edit the RSS to do both the NOAA channels and to go below 146 on a 146-162 band split radio?

On the 146-162. you should be good to 162.995. but I would just try the keyboard shift hack first. editing the RDD requires a little knowledge on hex editing. Also you may have to dig to find the band limit math. The limits may be direct hex values or they may be in some other format such as Intel long (CPS for sure)
