The driven elements do not have to be offset. That is done due to the design they used. If you look at the pics I posted my driven element is split but not offset in any way. The other elements go through the boom on my design. If you get handy and make a gama-match you don't need to split the driven element either. I'm working on an all metel version of the antenna I posted here with a gama-match. I post up when its done.

All I can say is that is an excellent antenna
I made one in about 1/2 an hour and works flawlessy
I am going to make another one and point it south heck maybe make 3 ore one for west, north and south
exsiting one is east. Good job buddy

Looks good. Thanks for the photos.
I have made lots of ground planes for various scanners and I use #10 or #12 house wiring. It's very cheap at Home Depot or Lowes. Usually 3 or 4 conductors in each piece, then just strip off the insulation.
Also, why not use square wood? It would be easier to mount and easier to drill straight holes through it.
Her's a ground plane I made using #12 copper wire.

I made one of these as well a few years back... Not much to look at, but I was amazed at how well it actually worked. I too have an 800mhz yagi up in my attic (mounted on a rotor) that I bought on eBay and it works excellent. I'd love another that I can dedicate to a semi-local TRS so I think maybe I will build one of these and give it a try. My existing yagi is using LMR-400 but I think I will cheap out and start off with plain ole RG-6 on this one.

question though, I made another one to point south, the first one i built points east.
my question is can I tap into the original coax to make one going into the back of the radio, with the new coax for the antenna point south.
do you think this will work? I can't see why it woulnd't because it is the same as a coupler right?
or am i just messed up?

You can design lower gain yagi's that work fine with this site also. I have not tried transmitting with one of them yet. I'm curious too about what it would take to get it to match up. Mine is feed with 50ohm 9913 and the pigtail is 50ohm RG8X. One photo shows how I attached the pigtail directly to the driven elements. If some sort of matching device was used I suppose it would attach to the drivin elements and then to the feed line. Sound right? It receives very well and much better now that its been weather sealed and put up on the roof.

I know this thread spans a lot of time but just an FYI, the design intent for this yagi is to be driven by a folded dipole. I know this page isn't easy to find from the yagi design page, follow the links from the left side, Antennas->Yagi Feeds
