Last chance and i'm out.

When in weather scan, do you see the display scrolling freqs in the 162 mhz range? If so, what is the squelch set at? And you do have the antenna hooked up and extended if its a telescoping type?

When I hold the WX button it is now showing a screen saying "WX scan" and FM ATT underneath. The word "SCAN" is floating across the screen in between, no numbers.

hey patrick,
if you enable personal messages, i can send some hints on how to manually program the radio.
or send your parents to this site and i can send it to them.
also ATT on the screen means that attenuation is on and that cuts the signal to about 1/100th of the original.

I bought a Uniden BCD996P2----but all I get is static or nothing.

One of a few important questions asked at noon.

And you do have the antenna hooked up and extended if its a telescoping type?

9 hours later,

I got it working thanks. Antenna was loose.

Special thanks to those who helped, also to those who were very unfriendly.

Was I helpful or very unfriendly?

i would recommed a radioreference membership and you download proscan
with both of these you can pick what frequencies you would like

Wow, what a thread. HeyPatrick has deleted his account. Sometimes storms blow through quickly on these forums.
