• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So - a buddy of mine has an old MTS2000 UHF radio he wanted a ConvertaCom for. I told him about this auction that had them brand new in box -

issue is - I’m not sure if this will work on his UHF radio. My question is -

1 - will this work with his UHF radio and
2 - if it doesn’t - what part number / part is needed ? ( which will probably be next to impossible to find now - hence why this was so cheap ).

Thanks all ! My knowledge on MTVA’s is next to zero haha

Yes.

They are "RF agnositc", as it doesn't matter which band you use with that specific model.

They did make some that had an RF amplifier in them that was band specific.

That one just gets the cradle connected to an external antenna and he'll get the ~4 watts or so out.

Here’s the list. The 1322 controller was just that. A controller with no amplifier. The other controllers also had band specific amplifiers in the controller box.

MTVA question (for MTS2000 VHF)

MTVA question (for MTS2000 VHF)

Control unit w VHF amp. NTN1323
Control unit w UHF amp. NTN1324
Control unit w 800 amp. NTN1325
Control unit w 900 amp. NTN1326
Control unit w/o amp. NTN1322
There must be a controller attached to the cradle to work.

Perfect. That’s all I needed to know. He was just wondering if he needed something specific for his UHF ( S split ) radio. If I wanted more power he could always get the UHF amp for it ( would have to look up the part number for that, even though they are probably harder to find than hens teeth )

Edit - thank you N4KVE - that’s all I needed to know ! You must’ve written your reply as I was typing mine haha
