• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

see my post on product information screen.

Still doing hurricane work, I will let you know more when I can.
Understand, but I see no info about V2.0 firmware files above. If rumor is correct, they must supply different FW files for each digital pair. You have to reflash radio and enable correspondent pair. For now, 3 FW files must be available for users.

Here I am not talking about license/feature activation like DMR. It's pretty clear from my experience with Kenwood digital radio. Just check option and write data back. And you will go with it if proper license is in your LMC.

And piece of madness. Firmware release 2.0 is there also, but contains 1.71 release notes file (RN-16-0001_Release Note_NEXEDGE_R1.71). Why they do it not for a first time?

And also. Binary firmware file is one and unified (NX-5400K2_FIRM_SH01_REL22.KEX) for all digital modes. It means, that 2 digital modes limitation (instead of 3) is NOT memory limitation. Firmware with DMR well suits radio! It confirms that 2 digital modes limitation is just a marketing limitation.

It's sad.

It's good that you have updated, but I am talking about absolutely different thing. That there is ONLY FIRMWARE FILE for all digital modes. So, DMR is there, but you can't run it if you have P25+NX. It's here in your radio, but you can't. Marketing.

I hope that they will change mind and allow 3 digital modes at the same time. I will accept it even no mix mode for all 4 modes will be present. It’s absolutely no needed.

In others, I am going to upgrade and buy 2 new licenses. To test this stuff with TRBO Gen1 I have in my fleet.

Here is proof that DMR code is in radio (vocoder, air protocall, etc.), but you FPU doesn't allow you to add it.

Guys, who do have SD card installed. What is the maximum Recording Length for microSD memory card? Per one transition and totally (for all of audio)? I can't check, because I don’t have card installed and this field id greyed out.

When you have time, please go to Optional Features 2 -> microSD - > and enable Auto Recording, All TA/RX, and set maximum possible value to microSD Memory Card form. And please let us know this maximum and the moment when radio will blink with Memory Full message (instead of Scan message above the softkeys). Thanks in advance.

And bad news, that you will need $95/$150 option to read stored data, or disassemble radio and extract the card to read it with regulat cardreader. This is pure stinginess by JVCKenwood.

Multi-RF Deck Single Speaker Output
• Audio Priority Deck #1

Anyone know more about what this means? I'm about to put together an order for a 3-deck setup for my new vehicle, and it doesn't have much room for speakers. But I do want to receive >1 at a time, so I'm guessing by "priority" they don't mean that?

KES-3's are no bigger than a 2 fat cigarette boxes put together. I use 3 speakers, so I can only say this
whenever "DECK A" receives a signal, it takes priority over the "unselected audio" in this case of a single speaker.

I will say this, if you do a lot of monitoring, as I do, and on the road a lot, it can over-stimulate your ears.

I want to let you all know, when you TURN ON DMR, ALL RADIO DATA WILL BE ZEROED OUT! (cleared)

Just like you changing from personality to channel mode, the radio format is cleared and RESET.
Don't yell at me, and don't yell at Kenwood, your not on their payroll. I will have time next week to
play with it, but for now, the formatting of the file is totally different, and you will be starting the codeplug
as a virgin (FIRST TIME SETUP). Save what you have now if you plan on flipping between the two, that is my suggestion, and so far, it works for me.
