I live in Wausau WI. On 133.745 I hear aircraft coming into a airport named "killer" on runway X.Can someone tell me the airport name? Thanks.

Runway X? Runways are numbered, not lettered. There are huge "X"s painted on airport manouvering areas that are off-limits to aircraft for a variety of reasons, but I doubt that plays into whatever you heard.

And 133.745 is not a valid 25 kHz spacing VHF air band frequency.

NP, that's kind of what we're here for.

Assuming you don't know, ARTCC gives aircraft on the KKILR arrival a descent instruction and a Runway Transition. "...Descend via the KKILR3 arrival, Runway 30R transition." You heard the aircraft read it back.

I've heard that phrased many different ways. And pilots sometimes (usually) shortcut the readback. So all you may hear is a quick "descend via the KKILR, landing Runway 30R" or any variation.

As to "runway X", perhaps you meant X to be a variable? Runways (RWY) that are closed are generally marked with an X. Taxiways (TWY) are identified by letters, and there is a short extension of TWY A at the top extension of RWY 12R that is marked with "X" on the Airport Diagram (AD), though I don't know if this means "do not use" or it is actually referred to as TWY X (it's a pretty jumbled AD, but there are TWYs Y and Z in the vicinity, so it could be). Doesn't seem like something they would discuss at high altitude though.

An "X" marking on a runway--instead of the typical compass heading--means "don't use". I wonder if the aircraft had a question or concern about an abandoned strip someplace?

As long as we're bringing up unusual aircraft traffic in south central Wisconsin--and this is probably not important enough for it's own thread (although I could be wrong)--I've also noticed something unusual: a single military fighter flying over Wisconsin Dells, going from NNW to SSW, flying low enough so folks on the ground could recognize it as a fighter.

I can't even begin to guess what frequencies it would be using way out there--or what military bases are along it's flight path. It does have me curious enough to bring it up here in hopes someone might be able to point me in the right direction for frequencies to monitor...

They wouldn't be. I'm pretty sure it was a variable. Put the frequency and the arrival together, odds are it was in reference to the STAR since they have to issue you a Runway.

There's tons of aircraft out there. Military/civilian/government. Milair/Government aircraft sometimes have civil "sounding" callsigns while Civilian aircraft sometimes have military "sounding" callsigns. What you think is milair is actually just FAA or something testing a UHF frequency. What you think is a commuter flight is actually a military aircraft trying to blend in on regular VHF. I could go on....

1) Identifying (in order of valuable information given)
A) Personal ADS-B Feed (hopefully fed to the links below)
B) Internet searching callsigns/registrations/ADS-B codes
C) ADS-B Exchange - tracking thousands of aircraft
D) Live Flight Tracker - Real-Time Flight Tracker Map | Flightradar24

2) Communications (in order of vaulable information given)
A) RRDB ARTCC Frequencies
B) Local TRACON/Tower Frequencies
C) Common Frequencies
D) Known AR Track / MOA's

Using a combination of all of the above; I've almost never picked up / heard an aircraft and not found out who or what it was. Start there.

Thanks to all. Slayer86 has a really good take on it I think do to hearing" killer " on one frequency and a identifying aircraft mostly commercial aircraft. Sometimes the call comes over so fast I think I am listening to a auctioneer and a bidder. The ATC controller seems to notice how fast the pilot is talking and responds at the same speed. Military air in my area is almost none. Also on one aircraft to company transmission I heard the pilot say they had no water on the plane and where asking for instructions. Company replied " Start handing out wipes. If they have to go.Let them go." I bet that was one smelly ride!

My guess. There's an F-16 Air National Guard base in Madison WI (KMSN), and just to the north of Dells there is a large area called the VOLK Military Operations Area (MOA) that they play in. You'll hear them working Madison Approach LiveATC as they go back and forth. Once they get in the MOA they switch to tactical frequencies. I'm not familiar the the WI ANG or their A-A Tac frequencies. Anyone here know of any ?

Listening to LiveATC this evening. The WI ANG F-16s out of MSN going to the Volk MOA were using VHF 135.450 Madison Departure, cleared direct to waypoint "west one" then handed off to Chicago Center 133.950, Chicago cleared them into the "Volk Complex" advised radar service terminated and told them to contact "Phoenix". There is a Phoenix frequency listed as 364.250 on that list, not sure if it's accurate ? Callsigns were BADGER 11 (flight of 3) and BUCKY 21 (not sure how many?).
