Anyone know where I might find a two way radio that’s p25 Trunking that’s set up or can be set up for right now to scan my local system and Conventional Analog systems. The XTS radios suck and not into them at all ?
Harris XG-100P or XG-100M. Somewhat affordable, no trunking affiliation and lots of “stuff“ is readily available to make it work.

I don't really know where to begin with this, but given you are asking, you have not evn started the vast learning curve you need
to set up any transceiver for NAS scanning.
That alone will take you months.
Your comment XTS radios suck, not into them, well, are you into any others like Harris or Tait ?
I cut my teeth with an XTS, and already had programming software. Final result is it works well. months in the works though.
Things you MUST know is the basics of P25 and how it works, and there is a lot to it.
Then basic programming with what ever brand you go with. prcguy suggested XG-100P. Good radios and easier to program NAS on about any
P25 system.
Then there is the system(s) you want to scan. You need to know some detailed information about each one.
Then your programming software, shoving in a couple analog channels is easy, Digital and P25 is not, along with NAS, this is far easier than Motorola, but still advanced programming level.
Then build your codeplug, that may take 10 or 20 trials before it works.
You need to know how to set up your programming hardware, PC, cable, radio, so they talk to each other.
When you are up and running, then there will be tweaks and setting you want.
I am not trying to scare you off here, it is gonna take a lot of patience, lot of reading. It can be a very interesting journey at hobbyist level.
One setup I use is an SDR radio and DSD+fastlane. Works fine monitoring my local system. Its cheaper, probably easier to set up.
6 years I have been at this, I have a few Motorola, portable and mobile radios, A few Harris mobiles, all able to non affiliate scan my local system that is big. upward 3000 users, and there are larger.
So, you get cold feet and buy a capable scanner like SDS100, to program that, much of the above still applies.
Hope this helps and gladly answer any questions you have within my know how.

How are you on APX series then? The 7000 with all the code plugs hack enabled are great. There’s also the unication G4/g5 which is great in simulcast areas.

All the scanner out there suck. I’ve had quite a few and have been around a lot of them too.
Yeah nothing wrong with it, lots of people especially news professionals and stringers will do that as well. They’re more reliable, decode better, have better audio especially on digital systems, and are more rugged so last longer under rough use.

Some people on this forum just can’t handle others doing things that doesn’t conform to their preconceived notion’s about how the world oughta work, especially the stereotypical HAME types. Pay it no mind.

People like the above post do not agree with most thoughts but here is what you need to know.
You would be better off with a scanner or unication pager depending on your needs.
But if you are set in stone about a working radio the you need to go through your department and get a Department issued or approved radio.

Your statement in this thread (post #6) tells me that you indeed *do not* know how to program them. You can program public safety radios but yet you don't understand how a scanner uses the control channel to track the TGID across different frequencies within the system?

Sounds like you're in public safety based on your username. What is your aversion to simply asking your commanding officer to provide you with access to the system? Super easy, assuming you're a legitimate user. I've been on this forum for 20 years and the amount of people that claim to be in public safety yet want to do everything else besides "just ask your boss", is mind boggling.

Buddrousa beat me to it… Lots of them around for far less then $900. A G4 brand new is only $630.00.

I believe a Unication is single band. How does that work if you need multiple bands? That Harris XG-100P multiband is looking better all the time and it’s probably cheaper than a Unication.
The Unication G4 is single-band 7/800. The G5 is dual-band VHF-7/800 or UHF-7/800.

I’m sorry but scanners are garbage
Not really I have many scanners and Many Moto HTs and Kenwood pro radios and they both met my needs for the last 68 years in radio. Starting with Xta controled rigs to hand tune rigs.

Its all up to you but all scanners are not garbage !

Just my opinion
Steve
