I am making another trip through Missouri, IH35 to Joplin, IH44 to KC, IH29 to Iowa.

I started looking at the updated systems. When I looked a MARRS, I notice something odd. Talk group 34300 shows to be fully-encrypted.

I noticed a blue hyperlink, which is usually associated with online sources.

Let's say this is an accurate talk group and the hyperlink is associated with an online feed. Why would talk group be linked to online with "DE?"

One of my complaints about the calls platform is that while the talkgroup can be 99% encrypted, all it takes is a brief transmission in the clear to generate a blue hyperlink. You can view and listen to the history of calls for the talkgroup 34300 by visiting this link: Sheriff Dispatch/Clay County MO Group Calls Live

I see a few things I can monitor, but I am not going to knock myself out programming this. Thank you for clearing this up.

That's the Clay County Sheriff main talkgroup. They went encrypted over a year ago as did all the other LE agencies in that area. Whoever runs this stream on broadcastify needs to update it: Kansas City Metro Area Fire, EMS, and Police Live Audio Feed. Most of the fire departments except CJC, Gladstone, and Independence FD can still be monitored.

Thank you. I was aware of the KC area going crazy with "E." Sad for those in the area. But, there are still interesting sources of monitoring to keep me happy in KC.

They went encrypted because of a CJIS mandate https://www.missionhillsks.gov/DocumentCenter/View/8405/MEDIA-RELEASE---Police-radio-encryption. I suspect that more encryption will pop up in other parts of the US due to the mandate. What I don't get is why some of the fire departments went encrypted. CJIS doesn't apply to them. It's one of those "we did it because we can" situations.

When I looked at the few things I would be interested in monitoring, I decided it would not be necessary since I hope I am in and out of the area ASAP. Thanks for the responses.

I give up. When I noticed that Clay, Platte, Cass were locked up with the dreaded "E" I said, "To Hell with Missouri. It is not worth the hassle.

Although I love driving in Missouri when compared with boring Kansas, I can at least enjoy a robust seamless radio system that works quite well. I programmed the Kansas statewide P25 system. There is a lot to hear in Kansas.

Thanks anyway.

Enjoy the Kansas stuff while you can. I know there's more encryption planned for KSICS...lots more. I've heard that the KHP main dispatch talkgroups will remain clear but who knows what will ultimately happen.

Well, I don't believe I will go to all the trouble of programming this system. I don't travel to Iowa very often. I will just go my usual route via IH49 & IH29 in Missouri. Thank you.

I'm sure you already made your trip, but I'd suggest just running your rig in close call / sweeper mode. You may or may not pickup anything in the clear but you also might get unlisted unenceypted vehicular repeater outputs too. Maybe even takedown mics etc. Just get ready to beat the hell out of the L/O button 😁

I would rather run with the service type modification to the full DB coupled with a zip code. I own the GPS, but hate it. I will just travel through with the bare minimal of MARRS. Thank you. I have not taken off yet.

It has been my experience in some cases that the encryption designator in the database isn't always accurate. Not saying that's the case here, but still worth monitoring anyways.
