If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Today My MD 9600 lost it's display. Turned the radio on to a solid white screen. I reloaded the firmware, can do upload and download of programming but the screen is solid white.

So how does everyone like the New CPS and Firmware for the 9600? I do like the 100,000 contacts CSV display. Not sure on the split channel thing.

TYT-MD9600 Blank Screen Problem - White Screen of Death

Hi all,

This may have been asked before and answered, but here it goes. I have a version 1 MD-9600 that has suddenly decided to give me the white screen of death. The radio works and programs, but the screen stays completely blank. The buttons also appear to work but no joy on the screen. The screen worked before and suddenly stopped. I firmware upgraded to the latest version to see if that helped but no dice.

Any ideas anyone?

Same thing happened to me. I got lucky and got a replacement from the vendor.

Should I Get One ?

Hi, folks. Thinking of getting the TYT 9600 as a base unit. What's the consensus, please? Have all these many issues been addressed in the current units? Will I have to upgrade firmware and software myself once I get the unit (I can do it but shouldn't have to with a unit purchased new from an authorized distributor)? I like the idea of a dual band with DRM capability but I don't need all these headaches. Opinions appreciated. Thanks!

Want to buy mine? I actually prefer the CS 800D from Connect Systems over the MD 9600.

Appreciate the offer but I'd still like someone to weigh in on my questions. You sound like you're telling me that the CS 800D is the better radio. Anyone else, please? Thanks to all.

CS800D is a great radio, also have a CS800 and both are wonderful.

Probably like the person above I would not even consider a 9600, even though I do like my MD380, but they have gone really downhill since that model.

Mine failed this past winter every time the temperature went below 36 F it would turn white. Then one day after the temp dropped below 30 F it died. Sent it back in for repair to dealer they replaced it instead. Just got around to putting it back in my van so far it has not failed but then it hasn't been below 50 F either. Will see next winter what it does.

MD 9600 Popping Problem

Can someone point me to the mod to fix the popping problem. I know you need to add a resister and capacitor I just don't know the values of the components to add or where to put them. Is there detailed instructions somewhere

I believe this post from earlier in this thread will answer that...

The popping and audio taper can be fixed with hardware mods. It requires a .1 capacitor on the audio amp and a 1k resistor across the volume pot pins. I've done both and they work.

Here's a guide on what to do...
https://www.pc5e.nl/downloads/rt82/manuals/Mods%20for%20Tyt%20MD-9600%20By%20Colin%20Durbridge.pdf

But in the interest of keeping this mod updated I recently got an MD9600 with V6.03 firmware and the "NEW" hardware. I noticed something not seen in the images at the above link for the 1k resistor mod. There appears to already be a resistor here. But the volume seems to still get way too loud way too quick.

Any thoughts?
