Hello all. I just returned from a trip to South Florida and both confirmed some things and found some new ones.

1) Miami Beach Police have gone active on an APCO-25 digital system as expected. The following is my best effort at updated talk-groups. This is preliminary unconfirmed info, but seemed to be accurate when applied this way. Fire talk groups have not changed and are not digital. PD:

36899 CH1 Dispatch (?North)*
36883 CH2 Dispatch (?South)*
36880 CH3 Dispatch (?Deco)*
36928 CH4 Warrants Confirmed
36960 CH5 South car to car
36976 CH6 North car to car Confirmed
37104 CH9 ?Supervisors
3724 ?Surveillance ("golf" or "gulf" units)

*Dispatch was clearly on these talk-groups, although the geography was confusing. At times they seemed to be using only one TG to dispatch the entire city, while at other times up to three were active. Perhaps it is dependent on how many dipstachers are working during busy or slow times of day.

2) City of Miami talk groups are up to date in the database
3) Dade County is also up to date. PD is on EDACS trunked system, Fire remains on UHF.
4) I heard no activity on the Coral Gables system, although wasn't actually iin CG, but close.
5) Broward County Sheriff and Fire Rescue is up to date in Database
6) Fort Lauderdale PD/Fire is up to date in Database
7) Monroe County Sheriff is active on the APCO 25 trunked sytem and talk-groups are accurate, fire remains on UHF
8) Key West Police are active on APCO 25 Monroe County System, and datatbase talk-groups are accurate. No fire/EMS activity on system. Key West fire sppears to be active on UHF, can't confirm.
9) FHP is very active on Motorola APCO-25 system from Palm Beach to Key West. Database talkgroups are up-to-date. Apparently no Provoice yet.
10) Fish and Game active on Motorola APCO-25 with accurate talk groups.
11) Very heavy encrypted comms on Cosat Guard 23A (157.150) in Key West.

Can anyone confirm if Miami Beach Fire have switched to the Digital system or changed trunk ID's??

I am not hearing anything on the trunk IDs listed on Radio Ref.

Thanks

W4kRR and ezy:

I've been trying to figure this one out for over a month. I was in Miami Beach in mid-february. I found that the frequencies listed in the database were still good, or at least seemed to be.

As for the PD, they had definietly gone digital with the new talk groups. The digital PD talk-groups currently listed in the RR database were provided by me, and I cannot attest to their accuracy. I was assuming the PD was using the same channel and district set-up as prior to the digital upgrade, and I tried to fit in what I heard while searching the trunk for many hours. It seems some of my inferences do not agree with the talk-groups listed by w4krr. For example, there were clearly dispatch operations going on on the talk groups I listed as dispatch channels which are not listed by w4krr. Again, I cannot confirm any of this and am no longer in Florida.

As for fire-rescue, the old analog talk-groups were active for sure while I was there and I found no active digital fire-rescue talk-groups while searching the trunk. Perhaps they have switched since I left a month ago.

I am curious, what is your source for these talk-groups w4krr? I frequent Miami Beach and would love an up-to-date source for this new system. After listening for many hours I still couldn't quite figure out the PD channel arrangement. Thanks for your help on this one. I really enjoy monitoring in Miami Beach. Thanks again.

My source is the "South Florida Frequency and Trunking Guide", by Brian "Scannerdude" Cathcart. He puts out a reference book and CD that's updated once per year. I consider this guide a "must have" for scanner listeners in South Florida. I've been a customer for his guides for years. You can order this guide from his website www.scannerdude.net

I don't work for him nor do I get any compensation from him, I'm just a satisfied customer.

His job has him traveling a lot, so it may take time for him to respond to inquiries.

Thanks wk4rr. Sounds like a pretty reliable source. I will try those next time I'm down. I would love to get a hold of one of those guides. Thanks again.

Awesome! Thanks. Any fire-rescue plans to go digital? W4KRR is listing some digital talkgroups of unknown use. Fire was still using the old TG in mid february. Thanks again for the update.

I believe fire is planning on going digital. They already have a digital talkgroup layout. I don't when it will happen. The layout in Brian Cathcart's book is pretty accurate.

According to Brian's book, the talkgroups I listed in post #3 above are the digital talkgroups for both police and fire/rescue.

The Police TG's I listed in post #9 above are 100%, absolutely correct and current . Trust me on that one. I can assure you that the TG's in Brian's book are pretty accurate for fire though. :)

I'll trust you, Joe. I'm too far away from there to hear them ;-)
