I'm in the lovely City of Buchanan, Berrien County, SW Michigan (yes, people with scanners do live here!).

I monitor:

1. MPSCS (which includes MSP, Berrien County, and local police, except for Niles City, and including MDOT in winter, and Co. Animal Control occasionally).

2. All other receivable VHF & UHF public service freqs for my area (like Berrien Co. Road Commission, area ambulance services, Niles police, St. Joe & Benton Harbor PD, Cass Co., etc.).

3. One Amtrak frequency (161.505).

4. The electric utility (AEP), which is an EDACS system.

5. Any receivable transportation frequencies (Nile Dial-A-Ride, Berrien Bus, Buchanan Schools, Niles Schools).

6. And since I live so close to, work, and do most hanging out in South Bend, IN, I monitor as much of that scene as I can, including police & fire (SB, Mishawaka, St. Joe County, InSP Safe-T, LaPorte Co., Elkhart Co.), some aircraft, some fast food places. Kind of a "drive by" approach.

7. I also go to Chicago a lot, and monitor as much of their very diverse and numerous scene as I can when I visit there.

All accomplished with (and thank goodness it exists!) a Uniden BCD396T, as well as an old but solid as a rock Uniden BC100XL. Also own a broken BC200XLT, and a recently retired Electra Bearcat BC101.

I'm on the border of Washtenaw and Livingston counties, but in Washtenaw county. North of Ann Arbor right off of 23.

I have a pro-96 and a pro-2051.

1. Base scanner is pretty much strictly for Washtenaw County Fire and Ann Arbor City Fire.
Pro-96 for the following
2. Livingston, Washtenaw TRS, U-M TRS, HVA, DOC, MDOT
3. Medflight, Survival Flight
4. Commercial Aircraft (I even like to go out to Metro Airport every once in a while to listen to the many ops, rather than just the Pilot's side of the conversation.
5. Jackson County when I go there about once every two weeks.
6. I get a little Macomb and a lot of Monroe along with my Livingston monitoring.
7. Grand Rapids and Muskegon when I get over in the area every now and then. Haven't been in a while though.

I am also a new forum user. I just registered today. I have been using the database prior though. I'm just a beginner really, and hold no license, although I hope to some day.

Hello from North of 8 mile...

I listen primarily to analog public safety systems along the Woodward Ave. corridor. In the past month I've had two perpetrators run through my backyard on different nights. All action caught on my radios. Exciting to say the least. Both apprehended.
More to come I'm sure. From drug stings to car thefts to high speed car chases to retail fraud to nightly arsons/fires to bar fights and B&E's .....it's all right along this lively corridor.

Along with this...I listen in on....

SW
AM
FM
Amateur
Nasa
TV
MPSCS
Local Businesses
etc....

It's truly a fun hobby with a lot to learn from, and add to that it provides a certain feeling of security knowing what's going on, and where (for me and my family).

I just joined this site, so, hello everyone.

I live near Howell, and monitor:
Aviation
Fire & EMS (no police as I haven't got myself to buy a digital scanner yet)
World Band SW
Of course, AM & FM Radio (Jazz, Talk Shows, etc.)

I look forward to learning more about what goes on in Michigan.

Noob in Highland.

Hello all. I live along the Oakland and Livingston county border in Highland. I'm listening to whatever I can on a BC895XLT that I sort of inherited recently. I only have the original whip antenna so my range is fairly limited, I think.

You're listening will be somewhat limited with the BC895-XLT. It is an excellent scanner, but it is not capable of monitoring any of the MSPCS APCO-25 digital system being implemented throughout Michigan. Most all of Public Safety is, or will soon be on the system. So if you find you're getting interested in the hobby you may want to start saving for a digital scanner like Radio Shack's PRO-96 (hand-held), or PRO-2096 (mobile/base). They both run $499.99, but frequently go on sale for $399.99. You can find them on eBay at reduced prices as well.

In the mean time, there is still a lot to listen to on the BC895, check here for analog non-digital systems:
http://radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&ctid=1273

Again, most of the Public Safety, (Fire, and Police), have moved to MPSCS.

Mark in Maryland. I listen to any thing I can pick up when I'm in Michigan. The ride up thru the state, and any thing between Cheboygan to Petosky. I love the state and I cant wait to get back. I miss it so much that I read your Forem all the time.

Ionia county mainly....

I live in the city of Ionia, I mainly monitor Ionia County, but I have Montcalm, Kent, Barry, Eaton, Clinton, and Ingham counties' frequencies programmed on my SC230 for when I am on the go. I programed in a lot of the airport freqs and ham repeaters. I had FRS/GMRS programmed in during the fair, quite a bit of crazy stuff over that, lol.
