PC Rebooting

I am having difficulty with my PC

Runs fine until connected to the radios (4)
BCT15X, BCT15X, BCD996XT, BCD996T

Running 4 copies of proscan 8.9
Windows 7 pro

After starting the PC, it runs all 4 copies of proscan properly for about and hour then reboots

Without Scanners connected and the proscan running, it will run for days.

The PC passes serial loopback tests

Any Ideas?

I'm really liking the addition of the aliased UID fields Bob.
That was a nice feature to add!

My main use of ProScan is mainly for logging purposes on several of the ProScan supported models. That feature is still working fine in the latest 8.9.0 version. Good Job!

I do have a question for the thread readers regarding using a BCD436HP via the virtual control (VC) screen remotely.

Is there a way to bring up the P25 Error/Info part of the 436 display using just a combination of buttons from the VC control screen only?

I can do this with a BCD536HP just fine via VC but have not figured out how or if it is even possible with the BCD436HP when controlling the 436HP via VC remotely using ProScan.
I know when at the actual 436, one must usually press Function and then depress the Volume knob one time and then within a few seconds, the Function button must be pressed a 2nd time and then the Volume knob must be depressed again to get the 436HP to display the P25 info screen on the radios display. It's pretty much double the amount of function and volume know pushes that it takes to get that same info displayed on the screen of a 536HP.

I run my 436HP mostly at work which is only about 1.5 miles from home. I use the feature to compare error rates from the same system but if I don't leave the 436HP set to display P25 error rates when I leave work or change systems via the VC screen, I can't make the remote 436HP show the P25 error rate screen again via the VC feature of ProScan.

I feel like I'm just not hitting the function buttons correctly on the 436 VC screen so the 436HP does not see the correct command to display that info.

I know it's a lot easier on the 536HP as one just needs to hit Function and depress Volume to bring up the P25 display but the 436 needs a 2nd Function press with a 2nd volume knob push to display that info when using the 436s keypad.

Is this P25 error/info screen able to be toggled on/off via ProScan's VC screen controls on the 436HP?
I feel like it should be able to be done and I'm simply not hitting one or more of the VC buttons when viewing my 436HP via the VC screen.

If anyone knows how to bring up the P25 Info screen with ProScan when using the 436HP via the virtual control screen, please advise the correct keystrokes needed to do it!

It's really handy info when working on the same system with two fairly identical radios located about a mile and a half apart as I can adjust the P25 threshold on the fly as long as the remote radio is on the P25 error rate/info screen.

When I'm at work, I do the same but in reverse and I can easily display the P25 info screen on the 536HP at home as well as quickly adjust P25 thresholds while a transmission is still active.
I also have remote rotor control at both ends but it's not of much use if I can't see the 436 P25 error rate screen in near realtime while at home controlling the 436 over a VPN tunnel at work and watching the physical screen on the 536 at home!

I use the info for testing various antennas as well as finding the best antenna aim when I run into simulcast timing issues when at home remotely controlling the 436HP at work.

I will admit that I never tried bringing up the P25 info screen on the 436HP with older versions of ProScan so I don't know if it was possible before version 8.9.0 or not.

When I use the 436HPs keypad to show the P25 info screen while at the radio, ProScan does display the info correctly so that makes me feel like I'm just missing a VC function button push on the VC screen or something simple or stupid that I'm overlooking.
Or maybe it is just not possible with the way the VC screen is laid out with the separate volume and squelch controls for those adjustments on a 436HP.
I do like the separate volume and squelch controls Bob gave us for the 436HP, the does make adjustments of those controls much easier than using the actual radio!
But then on the 436HP VC display, you have a Function button and what appears to be a Function control knob like the 536HP VC screen has.
The Function looking knob on the 436HP VC screen is not labeled though so I'm not quite sure of that knobs function other than possibly for scrolling through the radio's menu system. The knob appears to also have a push function that may duplicate the E/Yes button but I sure can't find the button pushes needed to bring up the P25 info display that I'm after!

Hopefully I'm just overlooking something stupid that I've missed so if anyone knows how to do what I'm after, it would be greatly appreciated if it can be explained!

ProScan Client version 10.0

I run two copies of the client of my receiver PC. (too two copies of ProScan on a 'transmitter' PC) The PC that has the scanner attached, runs two copies of ProScan 8.9.0 so that it can transmit over the network both a BCD536HP and a Uniden 15x.

Before version 10.0 of the client, this was working okay. But now, even though I have the two copies of the client are installed and started in two different directories, which ever client I close last, overwrites the settings for both clients. Thus, on next startup they both run, pointing to the same scanner.

Any ideas?

I would double check and triple check that the two instances are in different folders.

They are on different drives:

(I should note, I used the installer twice, changing the drive letter)

Blane what CPU and how much ram are you running. I had a 2.8 gig old P4 single core that did not like running 4 proscan and 2 win500 scanners at the sametime.

Windows Pro - 64bit
8 gig ram
Intel pentium G3220 dual core - 3GHz

Machine been operating since last post without rebooting

Does ProScan Log A&B Tones while in ToneOut Search?

Does ProScan have the feature of Logging A&B Pager Tones while in 996XT Fire Tone-Out Search Mode ?

I am patiently searching and waiting to try and snag a few rare Tone-Out pairs on my countys dispatch.

Even cooler would it be if ProScan could compare and match up Fire Tone-Outs with the known text tags

and thus new Un-ID A-B tone out sets would stick out and flag my attention when later viewing the logs !

I am using the BCD-996XT's and lQQking for features that Commtekks Tone-Decoder II does not have.

If Bob or anybody else seeing this possible can chime in on this issue it would be GREatly appreciated ;)

PC Rebooting

Ok I have an Update

The PC reboots if ANY of the 4 copies of ProScan are operating (NO Scanners Attached)
Giving a bluescreen "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

I have decided to Uninstall completely (including any registry markers)

Have downloaded and installed (registered) version 10.0

Will let the PC run the 4 copies without scanners attached for a while and see what happens,
If all goes well I will attach the scanners

Window 7 Pro
8g Ram
Intel G3220 dual core processor

This is the only thing this PC does - monitor scanners

Do a google search "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" Many people have that problem. Try the suggested fixes and see what happens.

Audio recording level query

Hi all, can anyone tell me if there's an explanation why old Proscan versions up to 6.3 record audio much softer than new versions like 10? It's almost like Bob built in some pre-amp. Does anyone know?

No pre-amp. I would compare using the same Samples Per Second, Stereo/Mono, PCM/MP3, ProScan level control, Windows Mixer level controls, and the scanner volume to see if it makes a difference.

Getting the recording levels correct can be tricky with all of the adjustments that are available (scanner volume, windows mixer, sound card settings and ProScan level control).

I get the best results by keeping the windows mixer level as low as possible and adjusting the input level with the scanner volume control. I then use the ProScan level control to make any minor adjustments.

If you are using the microphone input on your sound card make sure that microphone boost isn’t enabled.

You might want to open one of your recorded files in an audio editor to check the actual levels within the file.

Update:
I have uninstalled both PCI audio cards and changed them to USB audio adapters (4)
1 adapter for each scanner.

Have been running for 2 days (Scanners not connected) no re-booting!

Apparently the PCI audio cards were interfering with something.
Even though Device Manager stated "No Conflicts"

There was no re-booting until I had selected an audio source to record, then the trouble started.
With the current USB models, I have them record source selected and so far no issues.

Thanks for the advise Bob
