Question about updating Proscan...i have two instances installed, and when i run the updater it basically creates a third. Is there a way I can update both of my instances without losing preferences, etc.?

Assuming you have created two custom folders in Program Files (x86), you can leave the third "default" ProScan install intact. Upgrade that version each time, then copy all of the files from that directory into your other two directories. That will leave all of your settings intact.

Another way is to run the setup program then choose the same folder where one the ProScan instance is then finish the installation process. Do the same for the 2nd instance. You will not loose the configuration.

You can also write a batch file to update the other instances. This comes in handy if you have more than two instances, where it becomes tedious to update each one at a time, or manually copy the files to each directory. I use this script (named ProScan.bat), where I update ProScan A using the installer, then run the script to copy all files from the ProScan A directory into the other five. The /purge command is optional, but it clears out any files that don't match whatever is in ProScan A, effectively ensuring that no old files remain that may've been removed along the way. Also note that if you use robocopy, you'll likely have to create a shortcut to the batch file, and give that shortcut Run as Admin permission. After that it's just a double click of the shortcut and done.

robocopy "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan A" "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan B" /purge
robocopy "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan A" "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan C" /purge
robocopy "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan A" "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan D" /purge
robocopy "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan A" "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan E" /purge
robocopy "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan A" "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\ProScan F" /purge

I have Proscan 17.3 running on a mini pc. My intent is to remove the monitor and speakers. I want use remote desktop connection to connect to the mini pc running Proscan. When I remote into the mini pc I loss audio going out over web server and the computer I am remoting in on has about 5 seconds of scanner audio in a continues loop, my setup is a Uniden BCD-996XT using usb-1 and an audio cable to scanner. Both computers are Win 10 Pro.

Just started the trial. I have an SDS100 arriving tomorrow so I wanted to start learning how to use the software. I was curious about the search option for the RRDB import. Is the use of this to let you jump directly to the RR web page associated with a ZIP or LatLong? I didn't see information on it in the manual so I was curious.

I too attempted to use Win Remote Desktop on Win7 Pro x64 back in the ProScan 15.3 days. Now I am up to Win10 Pro x64 and ProScan 17.3.0, but back then eventually abandoned and disabled Remote Desktop on the Win7 Pro x64 ProScan 15.3 host because of issues where the ProScan web server would stop delivering the virtual scanner web page to web clients while I was RDP’ing into the ProScan host. Things might have improved with Win10 and ProScan updates since then with Win RDP, but I have kept RDP disabled on my Win10 Pro x64 ProScan 17.3.0 host since those Win7 Pro x64 ProScan 15.3 Host days to have an excellent ProScan experience. As another previous poster said, maybe another remote host management client like TeamViewer or other may work better? Would like to hear if you find that to be true.

As for the audio looping issue you speak of with your analog input BC996XT, I had a BC346XTC occasionally doing the same thing with audio looping and my only known fix was to restart the instance. It occurred infrequently and did while RDP was disabled on both the Win7 and Win10 ProScan hosts, and therefore seemed to be unrelated to RDP.

At the same time, my SDS200 instance of ProScan with Ethernet LAN audio never had the looping audio quirk of the analog input BC346XTC ProScan instance, even as they ran together on the same Win10 Pro x64 host with RDP hosting disabled.

Please share your updated experiences, if any.

PS.

I believe RDP (client side) has an option whether to play audio on local machine, or remote machine. The options are available on the RDP client before you connect to the remote host.

Yes, jumps to the RR web page associated with the zip code. Enter in a zip code then click the Search button. After the the latitude, longitude, city, state, & country returns then click the RR Web Page button.

How does the 'direct entry' work?
What does 'AID' and 'SID' stand for?
If it's in the manual, please accept my apology.

These are RadioReference DB terms
aid = Agency ID
sid = System ID (not radio system ID but RRDB system ID)

If you already have the RRDB link that you want to import data from then enter in the aid or sid from the link (examples below) so you don't need to drill down State - County, etc..

I'm not sure if I am just missing it, but is there a way to view the log on the webserver? I have the Webserver service running, and have access to the recorder folder, but is there a way to show the overall log captured in the History Logging tab?

Overall, this is my first scanner (bought the the purpose of monitoring the City) and this software is a great value. 150% worth the purchase.

Thanks for the info on this. Is it possible to use the ZIP/LatLong search option to retrieve data on the first tab?

There's a file log "Web Server Log.txt" in the application folder. That will show when the server was started, any errors when starting, errors during run, clients online and IP address, & going offline. I don't know how useful that will be to you or what you have in mind.

History Logging is a different purpose which is history of radio traffic.

That's what I'm looking for, the history of radio traffic log in the webpage, without listening to it or going through the files.

The Web Server feature doesn't have that. The RSOIP feature does have that.

Question. I get a prompt to update to 17.3 but I can't tell where it's downloaded to to run it. ProScan used to automatically open the folder for you. After I click Finish, ProScan closes but then nothing happens after that.

That's fixed. It will be in the next version. The Downloads folder wasn't opening up. Go to the File Explorer and open the Downloads folder.
