• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My P7100 has developed a problem wi the side button PTT, it started as an intermittent you could hold the PTT down and tap the case and it would show TX. Now it won't key from the PTT; however it keys from an external speaker mic. I am guessing it may be a flex connector problem but haven't opened it up yet. Any hints would be appreciated, I need to modify the programming but cannot put it into programming mode. FYI I use Programmer 18B, don't want to upgrade to RPM.

If you have access to Programmer, Just change key pad settings to one of the other buttons on the key pad to see if the flex connector is the issue,

Without a functional PTT button you cannot perform a 3 finger salute to put it into programming mode, cannot be done usind the speaker/mic ptt.

This is a VERY common problem with the P7100s and P5100s. Jaguars, too.

Under the PTT is a square piece of rubber which contains the rubber PTT actuator, which
provides the mechanical connection between the PTT button on the housing and the actual PTT
switch on the inside of the housing. This piece of rubber deteriorates and turns to gum.

You remove it and install a new one. Part number of the kit is G4UK07720, PTT button kit.

All my P7100's have that issue - but you know what, it makes for a nice "feature" as we all use speaker mikes and it prevents accidental PTT actuation when you have other stuff on your belt. :)

Before I dive right in could someone pass along the Cliff Notes on how to do it the right way, before I fumble the job.

Replacing the PTT button?

It's so simple that I refuse to give detailed directions. It's easier than changing a light bulb. You do it from the outside.

Pry off the PTT button with a thin screwdriver tip. That's how it starts. The rest is self-evident.

Thanks that was what I thought, but wasn't 100% sure, I didn't want to open the radio if I didn't have to or break a tab in the process.

I used the shaft of a jeweler's small screwdriver placed about midway to act as a fulcrum to allow enough flex to get the top clip to snap into place.

Question- how do you get the PTT button to fit back into position after prying it off?

Clip one side in, then use a screwdriver to force the PTT button to "arch" so you can clip the other side in. It's super easy.
