That pretty much determines all of the radio assignments for cabs in Philly. Believe we now have all of the medallion cabs (PPA regulated) accounted for. Now just need to figure out some of the suburban cabs (such as OGED which I sometimes see in Delco, the Norristown cab companies (including Germantown Cab's Norristown division which does not use the same frequency as the Philly operation), and a few others).

Hi Joe,

Forgot to mention that Main Line Cab's "Malvern" channel on the Sunshine malvern site is 0-06-014.

There's also another Chester County cab on that site at 0-04-002 Base/0-04-003 Mobile. It may be On-Time Taxi or Millennium Taxi based on location.

There may be a few cabs on the Sunshine Eagleville site too. Have to do some research.

And so far the Sunshine Eagleville site has at least 2 cab companies:

0-04-019 Base/0-04-020 Mobile
0-06-006 Base/0-06-007 Mobile

There used to be a Cab company in Delco on the Sunshine Center City site at 0-02-001 but not sure if it's still there.

Crescent Cab used to be on 0-02-226. Are they still in business?

What are the codes used for on the cab radio? I hear Code 3's all the time. I know a code 5 is emergency - cab driver needs help.

Supervisor explained that to a Philadelphia Taxi Cab Service (0-19-250) driver Saturday night after a passenger sat in the front seat and keyed up the mic and interfered with the radio for over 20 min. Ordered pizza and all over the radio. The super was really p'd off and said what if another driver has a code 5 emergency, he would not be able to get help.

Haven't heard much on the Sunshine CC system in a while. The one talkgroup that I have labeled as an Auto Parts service is the only one I really get activity on regularly. I'll have to monitor while I have a few days off this coming week to see what I come up with.

Crescent Cab is still around but I haven't heard much of any activity on either their talkgroup on the Sunshine CC system or their duplex channel (502/505.2875 173.8 PL). They may be primarily using MDT's for communications with the radios as a back up.

I think Code 3 for the medallion cabs in the city means someone needs a cab at that location. I'm thinking that's primarily used when someone tries to flag down a cab who is unable to take them and they call it in to get an available cab over there.

The radio codes are not totally universal. However the basics are.

Code 1 Empty Cab
Code 2 Loaded with fare
Code 3 Cabs needed at location. Usually street corner or public sports venue
Code 5 is emergency with some companies some companies like quaker use code 5 for minor emergency code 30 is major emergency and closest cabs and supervisor respond usually someone not wanting to pay. Code 50 is police emergency get me help quick
Code 14 is fare estimate
code 15 is vip or secure the channel depends on the company
code 9 is silence all cabs stand by
code 99 is used on quaker radio usually means a blood job aka specimen to be picked up

You mentioned the cabs in the burbs. Well Oged taxi does not have radios they are cell phones only as they only have 3 cars and are based at 69th street terminal. Tinicum taxi does not use radios same deal as oged. Chester City Cab are licensed for radios but they are not used much.

As a side not the owners of all city/215 get a cab/checker are currently talking with the owners of county cab/quaker city cab/crescent cab company to buy them out as well quaker crescent and county are all under one ownership currently. There is also 1 possibly two new dispatch companies in the application process with the Philadelphia Parking Authority. One will be using the sunshine system if they are approved the 2nd will be looking at various options including their own system or the sunshine system or a icom idas system digital mode with encryption

Getting 151.490/97.4 this morning. Believe this to be either United Cab Co (never seen such a car) or Shannon Cab DBA Golden Limo (one of the Spanish town car companies - believe it may be this one) based on FCC licenses. Sounds to be Spanish being spoken but the audio is low and they're speaking too fast for me to tell. I may also only be picking up one side of the conversation. Golden Limo is licensed as a simplex on this frequency while United is licensed for repeater use with 154.515 as the input.

Listening to the Sunshine CC system this morning I'm only picking up activity on the one talk group for the auto parts company (0-02-006). Other than that no activity.

Also monitoring the Mobile Comms (Commpaths) Roxborough LTR system. Activity on 0-02-092 on this frequency - sounds like a private ambulance or paratransit company. Also getting 0-03-050 - sounds to be another private ambulance or paratransit company. Guessing the 0-02-092 could be Emstar as they were listed as users of this system with different talk groups prior to the system's apparent downsizing since changing hands from Mobile Comms to Commpaths per the database here. I'll try to confirm users on this system.

Back to the cabs, City Cab service (white and navy cabs) is still around. I know they used to share a base in Southwest Philly behind the Automall with All City Taxi and School Bus. Not sure if they still do or not. They have licenses under City Car Service for 220 MHZ trunk systems - last look at the emissions on those signals it may be NXDN mode.

On the Sunshine Roxborough system it appears Mainline Taxi has gained additional mobile TG's in the 0-09-1xx range in addition to the 0-09-030 through 0-09-090 range. Also hearing their dispatch mention cabs starting with an L - I know Mainline has cabs with an M prefix so I'm wondering if they're possibly dispatching more than just themselves now.

United cab was around until roughly 2007. They are no longer in business however the owner may have a car service and be using their name for the fcc license. There are a few car services that handle the spanish community and such in the north philly section. Such as family car service and northeast taxi and limo it may be one of them your hearing although northeast had a 2 channel system i will post their frequencies over the weekend. United cab use to have red and cream colored cabs, City cab uses a 220mhz indeed however i do not think it is nxdn they were for the longest time using a channel on Phil Adlers 220ltr system using the old equipment made by sea corp. Also just an fyi there are two blue and white cab companies in philly. Liberty Cab is light blue and white. And City Cab is dark blue and white also City Cab used yellow taxi signs while Liberty Cab has white ones that say LIberty on them. City cab was never tied in to All City Taxi they were tied in to All City Transportation which was a transport company that did school pick ups. I have been hearing traffic all day on the sunshine system with out a problem.

Under a search of the fcc date base under city car company the fcc designator for the City Cab Co radio service shows as this Amplitude Compandored Sideband (pilot tone/carrier) voice. i am not totally familiar with that type of system but it is also showing as a 5 frequency 220mhz trunked system and the number of bases and mobiles match up so i assume that is there current system. Here is a link to the fcc uls search ULS License - Non-Nationwide 5 Channel Trunked, 220 MHz License - WPSG881 - City Car Sales Inc. - Frequencies Summary

I don't really do much LTR scanning or listening to cabs, but this is probably Germantown Cab in Norristown. I listened for a bit the other day and many of the locations were local to central Montco. Not 100% sure, yet, though.

Also, if anybody wants this in the database, go back through the thread and compile what is correct and current as a database submission for each of the TRS's.

I have not looked at much of this thread, but from the last page, it seems like you guys are throwing a lot of info into the thread.
