There are plenty of online sources that will help you to understand your radio and all the programming you could possibly want. One of the best things I always recommend is read the manual. This time around the manual has been given more priority in composition and structure and makes more sense than manuals for other radios. One of the best sources online is: Easier to Read Pro-106/197/PSR500/600 Digital Scanner Manual

i followed that and programmed everything step by step but then i couldn't find any of the objects i programmed.all i could find where the preprogrammed objects that came on the scanner.

its like everything i program goes into a file and is sitting somewhere,i just can't find it.

Press "pgm"-new-conv-scroll down and program in 153.755, scroll down and put in text, scroll down and set PL to "search", press "SAVE" and if you were in SList1 with the "*" showing thats where you will find it....

I highly recommend WIN 500 by Don Starr (Software for RadioShack PRO-series (PRO-92, 93, 95, 96, 97, 99, 163, 164, 106, 197) and GRE PSR-series (PSR-500, 600, 300, 400, 310, 410) scanners). I've been using his software for over 6 years and it really takes the worry out of programming scanners. Buetel also has popular software for the Pro 106. And the ability to download frequencies from Radio Reference and put them right into the scanner is a real plus! You do need to subscribe, and it's well worth the subscription cost.

Here's a "fish"...

I prefer to "teach one to fish" rather than "give one a fish", as it were, but, in the interest of brevity and expediency, I will settle for "feeding you for a day" rather than "feeding you for life".

So, here is a file for your area I threw together quickly using WIN500 (see attached file).

Download WIN500 here: Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197, PSR-310, PSR-410 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control. It's free for 30 days and, as the previous poster stated, highly recommended. Also, get this programming cable: RadioShack® USB-PC Interface Cable for GRE Scanner - RadioShack.com.

Using these you can use my file to get started. Understand that I am not physically located in your area so I cannot verify the accuracy of the data I used - I relied on the RR data for your area: Bastrop County, Texas (TX) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference (and state, etc.).

Also, looking at Bastrop - the listing for the PD says "Backup" for that 153.755MHz frequency causing me to suspect that that city MAY have moved most of its PD operations (and fire, possibly) to the trunking system that the surrounding county uses (Greater Austin/Travis Regional Radio System (GATRRS) Trunking System, Austin, Texas - Scanner Frequencies) or is in the process of converting over or soon will do so. If so, the new relevant trunking talk groups have not yet been recorded. Therefor, you should inquire directly in the Texas forum on this site and ask about that. Just be aware that you may not hear your PD on that frequency and this may be why. Again, check in the Texas regional forum here on RR and post the question.

Given I am not in your area this is the best I can do in a hurry. However, it should get you started.

The WIN500 file is in a zipped format together with a text file so unzip to use. Read the README describing how the file is organized.

In some cases, I made some guesses with respect to labeling when I encountered incomplete label/descriptions - so my accuracy is suspect - again, I am not in the area so I did the best I could and do apologize for the inevitable errors and incomplete data. This is just a starting point for you to play with and get up and running quickly - as you learn more you will be able to modify it accordingly, obviously.

I will add one "fishing lesson" however, in the form of a basic conventional frequency programming instruction "how to" text file which I will also attach (basically what others have already written but summarized in one file which may help).

-Mike
