I have a couple dozen wall wart power supplies of varying voltages and amperage. About 100 adapter tips. An outdoor VHF/UHF/FM antenna (even though it doesn't fit in a bag) plus a mast mount amplifier, a couple other indoor amplified antennas, dozens and dozens of connectors and components and parts, cable spools etc.. etc.. even a hearing aid! I was afraid the bag was going to burst open. I still have to go through all the crap I grabbed.

Just Wondering` About The Radio Shack Stores Now That The Dust Has Kind Of Settled

I have been in three of them with the past couple of weeks. They seemed similar to what they were in the past. Perhaps a bit more Sprint activity.

Oh yeah,
they have become the PHONE SHACK..
The 1 in Portsmouth has 90% of the bnc stuff as to what Dover HAD--NH towns..
In fact, I don't recall seeing any --ANY antenna's there in Portsmoth..
The little girl working there is probably 90 pound's...
Not much for security..
They do still have bnc jump cable's, plus uhf cable jumper's...
They have a R-S in Rochester NH too.
But not any better than Portsmouth for scanner antenna's..
Thats fine, cause up at Rochester airport,
is a man that will sell me any type of antenna I ask for.
HF, VHF, 800 mhz, LO VHF, or regular scanner antenna.(MULTI BAND)
http://innovative-antenna-design-ll...y/us/c/18141376-innovative-antenna-design-llc
Maker of the FERRET, and CONDOR antenna's..
So--it is a sad state of radio supplies for some..
It's like turning Walmart into a 100% food stop...
Best of luck to those that have no source of scanner supplies.
The PHONE SHACK is open for money..

There used to be three or four in my city of about 80,000 residents. Now there is only one. They're business model hasn't changed much since the mass closing. They're still selling mainly cell-phones and accessories. I bought about 3-4 different types of cables and adapters and all were on close-out indicating that they weren't going to sell that type of product any more. Apparently, they haven't learned their lesson. Everything they sell can be found cheaper elsewhere and the staff isn't too knowledgeable on what they do carry.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I remember going in there and turning on the multiband radios to maximum volume and then turning the squelch all the way up to maximum so no one could hear that the radio was on. Then walk out to my truck in the parking lot and key up on whatever channel I had the radio set for. Talk about awesome!!!

They even had the huge glass front so I could see all the chaos ensuing.

I miss those days. I haven't seen a "radio" in RadioShack in about 15 years.

I have been in one near me that didn't close because it is a "Repair Center".

It was a barren wasteland. Hardly anything in the store compared to even the more recent RS stores.

I was looking to buy a battery for my garage door opener and they didn't have it and weren't interested in trying to figure out if it could be ordered.

A couple of guys in there who were rather unhelpful and seemed clueless.

Sad..... very sad......

We had three stores here, and all three closed. I knew that three was too many for our market area, but I was hoping that one would stay open ...

Anyway, I did stop at a Shack in Clarksburg, WV about a month ago to pick up some adapters. The guy behind the counter was very outgoing and helpful. As for inventory, they had a few brands of electronics I hadn't previously seen in a Radio Shack. What I call the "nuts and bolts" inventory of various connectors/adapters and such had been reduced, but they did have what I needed. Didn't really pay any attention to the phone stuff. :p

I was in a couple of Shacks in Dayton, Ohio back in August, and both stores had a much larger selection of cables, adapters, phones, everything ... they reminded you of the pre-bankruptcy Shack. One of them still had outdoor TV antennas and such. But then they were larger stores than the one in Clarksburg.

Basically it's been a YMMV type of visit

Some have Scanners prominently on display, others Not even in stock
Some have the wonderful Parts bins, others "you need to order those online"
Some have Sales in place (PRO651/652) like earlier this year on Sale thru Aug,. others
Nope, Full Price, no sales discounts even when showing them the Official Sale Flyers

And, here, they are selling the PRO-668 (Whistler 1080) for about $375 in a brown recycled-looking box labeled something like "Classic Radio Shack" (why am I having flashbacks to "New Coke?"). This particular store has the front third literally re-floored and re-packaged to be a Sprint store with clear lines of demarcation. Somewhat reminds me of the yellow safety lines painted around high voltage transformers. Those guys wear different shirts than the other guys. The other 2/3 is "Radio Shack," still selling Radio Shack stuff in a more condensed space. The store is owned by a distressed holdings company (Standard General).

Yeup that's the packaging for the Pro 668. I don't know what the packaging for the PSR-800 looked like but the packaging did leave much to be desired especially when compared to the packaging for the Pro 651 and 652.

The few times I've been in a Radio Shack since the mass closings (may have only been once actually) the store had one corner that was a Sprint store and the rest was Radio Shack. Two yellow shirted employees were in the Sprint section while the Radio Shack employee was working the rest of the store. She was helpful and surprisingly I wasn't there for anything scanner-related.

So I am looking to buy another scanner antenna and went to RS web site. The closest store is not as near as it used to be, but that's OK. No scanner antennas listed. Lots of (smart)phone stuff though. They should have changed their name to SprintShack as they aren't much into radios any more apparently. :(

The Radio Shack equivalent is the PRO-668 which is the same as the Whistler 1080 handheld?
