Shrewsbury/Worcester systems on CoMIRS

Is anyone here monitoring Shrewsbury on the CoMIRS system? When using my SDS200, the audio isn't the greatest. It seems muffled, especially with the police dispatch. The other talk groups for Fire, DPW, OPs channel etc sound pretty good. I've tried using all the filters and I don't see any improvement with them.

Also, the Worcester talk groups sound much clearer, but the audio levels are all over the place... loud, soft etc. I haven't gotten to the point of adjusting the talk group volume levels individually, although I may try that next.

If anyone has experience with these systems, and has suggestions for improvement, I'd love to hear them, thanks!

I'm surprised no one here has any guidance on monitoring these 2 systems. Compared to my SDS100, the audio is much better on 100... clearer and better audio levels. Maybe the SDS200 just has a crappy speaker.

Hi Beaterbox,
Sorry for the delay in response, been away. Yes, I've noticed the issue with SPD's audio sounding muddy myself. I don't think there is much you can do on your end.

On the Worc talkgroups, I haven't noticed the levels you mention. Are the TDMA groups sounding different than the FDMA and that's what you're hearing?

I only listen to them when I am up in the area on my SDS 100.

Hi Mike!

Appreciate the reply!

Since you've experienced the same, I'd have to agree with you. As for Worcester, it's been sounding pretty good lately... could have just been bad signal strength for a period of time or some other oddity.

Worcester has been rolling out new N70 portables, I know some tinkering was done with audio settings so that may explain variable levels.

I pick them up clear here in Millbury on both the 100 and 200. The polce sound clear. I recorded them one day and discovered they use only two channels 854.4625 and 854.8875 so I programmed them as Shrewsbury Digital on a different bank. I get everything loud and clear. When I'm home I put in my zip code. Also it could be that I'm in the next town.

Hi @bcgrubin, that's interesting as I hear them clear on my SDS100, but the SDS200 sounds muffled when listening to the Shrewsbury department. I'm thinking it's something with the speaker on the 200 and this particular system, as Worcester sounds clear on the 200.

I wonder if this could be one of those SDS "finicky filter" issues. I usually keep them set to off unless there's a need to try others. Not sure where you have them set on your SDS200 but can't hurt to try to change them. Uniden ships them set to "Normal". Try turning them off and see if it makes any difference. If they are off, try some of the other settings and maybe you'll hit the sweet spot.

The Global filter is set to off and the Site is set to Global. I've tried other filters, but I don't see an improvement when listening to Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury is all TDMA, most of Worcester is FDMA, perhaps your scanner is struggling with decoding the TDMA voice traffic, especially since Shrewsbury is of the H-DQPSK variety especially if you are in the fringe or noise for Site36

I live in the middle of Shrewsbury... so I wouldn't expect signal strength to be an issue. Perhaps I have something configured incorrectly for that system. I will dig deeper... thanks.

If you can send us a video of what the Shrews TGs sound like on your scanner, perhaps we can better diagnose what is occuring
