While I find this tragic, I also find it unnecessary. He died because his vehicle went out of control as he was going to help another officer involved in a chase of what began as an equipment violation.

Now retired, I was involved with law enforcement for 30 plus years, working for a small rural department and then a large city department and both had a policy of calling off a pursuit in such cases to avoid this very thing.

Yes, it is very sad, tragic and very avoidable!

One cannot give more than Trooper Werda has given to his state and country, Our prayers go out to his family and the Michigan State Police.

I never worked the road with Jeff, but we did attend a few schools together. I remember that he always seemed to have a smile on his face and a happy-go-lucky attitude. I also took a few photos before and after the memorial service.

There were LEOs in attendance from a far away as California. I spoke to troopers from Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, and two from Larado Texas who drove 28 hours to attend Jeff's service. It was really nice to see the amount of support not only from the LE community, but from the local community as well.

Nice Pics Bro. In your 3rd Post 4th Pic down if you had gone one car to the right (right edge of the photo) closer to the school you would have gotten my car. The seattle/baby blueish car.

I left my camera in my car back at the pd that day. I wanted to stick around but had to work at 5 and it was a 2.5 hour drive back home.
