This morning as I was heading out the door around 0530 AE0433 the apparent other C-32B that doesn't display a callsign showed up to the west of Richmond at FL330 heading 049 deg. I set my computer to record ZDC-Brooke since I figured that's where it would be, but all I got around that time was Fed Ex flights.

Any C-12s heard between 0700-0730 today?
I got 161501, 161326 and whatever is using 29CBB8 for mode-s, all before 0730.

1623- NIGHTHAWK-61 on 124.7 switching to unknown freq.

1745 BUZZCUT 40 FL 270 on ZDC 257.700.. Guess ZDC Salisbury still same.
1750 BUZZCUT 40 FL 270 on ZDC Sea 281.450. Speed 240 knots.
Sounds like fighter with mask on but not real fast at 240 knots.
1754 BUZZCUT 40 going down to FL 230.
1756 BUZZCUT 40 going to FL 190 loud and clear here 281.450
faded fast on 281.450 and gone..

Picked him up here at the same time Mark. That's our guy. SAC01 should be the tail number too - according to the picture. I guess the 08-0001 is Boeing's number.

Ref below: That haircut would fit right in today. :)

Rgr Alan looked up BARTOK in case anybody wonders where that callsign came from :)
Thanks also for mode s heads up as well or would have missed him on box for sure.
I guess we are all done now with 07 year C-17's finally!
Wonder what the significance of that callsign #0702 means.
Hungarian holiday date?

Hi Tin,

This was PAT 733 when I heard him earlier with GRIFFIN CP on 141.550 with an arrival msg. Will post a full log later on tonight.

RODEO 42 (KC-10A, 86-0028, 305th AMW McGuire) is also on the way.

1036: CAP players on the way in...260.9 is where they're checking in while still on the way to the Guard Dog area. HARASS 33/34 are the fighters - F-15s from the 71st FS at Langley. Tanker is TEFLON 01 (KC-135T, 58-0077, 171st ARW PA-ANG Pittsburgh.)
1043: HARASS 33 flight with ZDC-Calvert...281.4
1044: HARASS 33 flight over to "16 Prime" and check in with Potomac for clearance into Guard Dog...cleared for the block 210-250...350.25
1046: HARASS 33/34 over to HUNTRESS checking in....call TEFLON 01 and report 45 miles off his nose and ask to rejoin...TEFON 01 clears them to proceed...260.9
NOTE- Appears the tanker callsigns are changing all over the place. Last CAP it was GETTY, this time TEFLON. The CAP down in Florida for the shuttle launch used both TEFLON and GASMAN although the latter was used only for one of the days.
1049: TEFLON 01 to HUNTRESS to say they'll use primary (260.9) for a boom freq unless HUNTRESS wants them to go to the 270.15 freq (standard Guard Dog CAP assigned boom freq but seldom used). Also says when he leaves, he'll want direct Indianhead (to return to Pittsburgh).
1052: TEFLON 01 clears the HARASS 33 flight astern...33 reports weapons safe, nose is cold...260.9
1053: TEFLON 01 asks for the fighters tail numbers...HARASS 33 reports his as 81036 (81-0036) and 34 as 83010 (83-0010)...33 going in for a topoff...260.9
Scramble shows 81-0036 belongs to the 71st FS at Langley but 83-0010 assigned to the 493rd FS at RAF Lakenheath. I assume that plane has had a change of assignment.
1058: HARASS 33 finishes the AR and assumes FL 215...34 is cleared in to the boom...260.9
Had an Egyptian Air Force Gulstream 4 (SU-BPE..hex 01008E) pass overhead at FL 430. Tracked him from around 1030-1100

1101: HARASS 34 off the tanker and assuming his place in the CAP...looks like they're ready for CAP duty for the next four hours or so...260.9
1107: HARASS 33 tells 34 to push to "Man Prime" and they come up on the usual 71st FS interflight freq...360.15
1109: Brazilian AF VC-99A descending into the area (FAB2585...hex E40144)...Mode-S track
A bit earlier (starting 1047) tracked an RAF C-130/C4 (ZH879 from the Lyneham Transport Wing). It arrived in this area yesterday.

Rgr Alan
I could hardly read those tails as he called them but did hear FF
before each tail so must be all Langley F-15's for sure.

Time ran out to edit the above message so had to continue here...

I note some other RODEO flights being reported flying around the McChord area...RODEO 10 (C-17A, 99-0165) and RODEO 13 (C-17A, 99-0058) - both from the 62nd AW at McChord.
1124: HARASS 33/34 having a serious discussion about "The Bachelor" and merits or demerits of various women on the show...360.15
Later, they whine about having to walk 20 minutes to the plane and want golf carts for that. Poor babies.
These guys can do some chatting. Looks like they're going to spend four hours gossiping. They seem to be forgetting their comms are in the clear and not encrypted. One of them wants to be a NASCAR driver but doesn't know how to get started. There he is driving an F-15 which half the world would love to do and yet he wants another profession. Guess he knows the future of the F-15 - especially the 71st at Langley.

Seeing a callsign for a C-130H (86-0411, 95th AS) that came through this area late in the 1000 hour. I didn't hear him on the radio but the callsign he's got programmed in his Mode-S transceiver is "AREWR51" I'm assuming that should have been BREWR51 (and it took me a couple of minutes to decipher it...slow this morning)
One of the DE-ANG 142nd AS C-130s was tagged with EVAC duty and is flying as EVAC 40212 (84-0212)
1130: Just lost the Brazilian VIP aircraft from Mode-S at 3,100 feet. Not sure where he's landing.
1132: There he is...FAB2585 with Andrews Tower for landing...118.4 (must be landing from the south on runway 1 accounting for the Mode-S loss at that altitude)
1132: VENUS 30 (C-40B, 01-0040, 1st AS) working the pattern at Andrews (and still going at noon)...118.4

1202: HARASS 33/34 during their non-stop chat, decide it's time to try their KY (secure comms)...they do and get it to work on the second try - sort of - works some of the time and other times all they get is the mic being keyed but no voice....360.15
1206: Fuel remainders...HARASS 34 has 15,700 pounds and 33 has 15,000...and then sigh about only one hour gone by in their shift...360.15
1212: 33/34 decide it's time for 34 to get gas...then try to remember the tanker's callsign...360.15
1213: HARASS 34 and TEFLON 01 hooking up for fuel transfer...260.9
1213: VENUS 44 (C-37A, 99-0404, 99th AS Andrews) working the pattern at Andrews...118.4
1217: HARASS 34 off the boom after taking 8500 pounds of fuel...260.9
1227: HARASS 33 says he's got turbulence bad enough that it knocked his autopilot off...360.15
1240: HARASS 33 heading back to TEFLON 01 to suck on the boom and fill his tanks...260.9
1244: HARASS 33 cleared to contact the boom by TEFLON 01's boom operator ("boomer")...260.9
1247: HARASS 34 reports he's now got the turbulence...33 says it's in the northwest corner (of the Guard Dog area)...360.15
1248: HARASS 33 off the boom after taking 11,500 pounds of fuel...260.9

1305: HARASS 34 mission to headbutt an aircraft...260.9
1305: HARASS 34 to Potomac TRACON requesting descent to 10,000 feet...350.25
HARASS 34 tells Potomac (actually calls Washington Center) and gets snippy...says he needs permission NOW...350.25
1307: HARASS 34 cleared down to 2,000 feet...350.25
1307: HARASS 34 reports he has the traffic...220/2 miles...260.9
1307: HARASS 34 reports leveling off at 8,000...350.25
1309: HARASS 34 reports "unable radar or visual"...040/2...the reports TOI heading 110...changes it to 260...next BRA 340/6/9000...says he has visual...reports it's a SIRRUS....(fades due to altitude)260.9
1311: HARASS 34 reports he has made two passes past the left side of the aircraft and he's not changing...then reports he's changing heading to 310...level at 9500 feet...260.9
I can't hear HUNTRESS and most of the traffic is too weak to copy because of location and altitude. Hope someone else is getting this intercept.
1315: Report the aircraft is descending now...turning to heading 120 and now in steep descent...260.9
Continued below....

Got rid of what I had here for the RODEO aircraft dribbling in and instead compiled a complete list of those noted so far:
RODEO 10 = C-17A, 99-0165, 62nd AW
RODEO 13 = C-17A, 99-0058 62nd AW

RODEO 24 = C-130H, CH08, Belgian AF
RODEO 25 = KC-135R, 63-8037, 319th ARW
RODEO 27 = C-130J, 07-4610, 41st AS
RODEO 28 = KC-135R, 58-0126, 22nd ARW
RODEO 35 = C-21A, 84-0081, 76th AS
RODEO 42 = KC-10A, 86-0028, 305th AMW

RODEO 52 = C-130H, 73-1582, 39th AS

Ran out of time on the above message...

1318: HUNTRESS checking on fuel remainders of HARASS fighters...33 reports they both have fuel and reports 1.5 hours...260.9
I have no idea what happened to the TOI...assume since they are staying down low, they are escorting it to some airfield. They didn't play the game as is normally done where one goes down to make the intercept and the other stays higher to be able to relay the traffic to HUNTRESS. This time they both went low - or low enough where I couldn't hear them.
1325: Fighters back up high and 34 heading to the tanker...260.9
1326: HARASS 33 to Potomac thanking him for the help...350.25
1327: HARASS 33/34 back to man prime where they gloat and mention how much fun that was...say the pilot was scared to death...they're getting a good chuckle about the whole intercept. Say they didn't expect that one to happen today...both report they never saw the target on radar...360.15
1330: HARASS 34 cleared in to the tanker...going for a topoff and will need around 10K...260.9
1334: HARASS 34 off the boom after taking 12,000 pounds of fuel...260.9
1335: HARASS 34 tells HUNTRESS he wants to correct his first ID of the target where he called it a SIRRUS...says it was a white, high wing, 2 passenger small plane...says the pilot was trying to follow him...says he had to pass him so many times that he was probably confused...260.9
I can imagine due to the speed difference that the F-15 couldn't fly beside the TOI and would simply zoom past him on each pass.
1337: HARASS 33 and 34 now chatting about the intercept on man prime...34 says he would pass him so fast and then have to turn around and the little plane would try to follow him so was going around in circles...360.15
1338: HARASS 33/34 talking about noises on the Potomac freq (350.25)...360.15....then tells HUNTRESS about it...260.9
1343: HARASS 34 says when he first saw the TOI it was right in front of him about a mile away and level with his altitude...says he passed him at about 380...(and still getting a good laugh out of the experience. I can relate.)....360.15
1346: As an afterthought...HARASS 34 asks 33 if he ever checked the authentications...33 says he did and they were good....34 didn't have time and just went after the target...kind of glad they were good (chuckling some more)...360.15

1406: HARASS 33 requests to go to tanker TEFLON 01...agrees weapons safe, nose cold...TEFLON 01 clears him to join...01 asks what his offload will be...33 replies 4,000 but is on the interflight freq for the reply...so 01 asks again and gets an answer on this freq...260.9
1412: HARASS 33 off the boom after taking 5,000 pounds of fuel...260.9
1419: HARASS 33/34 still yakking away...say they should see their replacements on FiDL about 20 minutes to three...360.15
1431: HARASS 33 mentions he's got 1400 pounds of fuel trapped in his left tank...360.15
1440: HARASS 33 trying to contact HARASS 35 on Primary...no joy....260.9
1444: HARASS 33 to Potomac reports they'll be RTB in 20-25 minutes and requests direct Langley if able...350.25
1446: Hearing some weak chat on interflight freq...must be HARASS 35/36 heading up the road....360.15
I believe TEFLON 02 will be KC-135R, 62-3576, 133rd ARS NH-ANG Pease -- but it remains to be proven. I've been tracking him since 1436 but he's not displaying a callsign (yet) so am not sure. Bad...he's also at FL 240 as is TEFLON 01 rather than the normal 250 they bring them in.
1452: HARASS 35/36 checking in on Primary 260.9 for permission to head to the tanker, report weapons safe, nose cold...and 350.25 where they go to get cleared into Guard Dog.
1454: Potomac sends TEFLON 01 up to FL 250 (he caught it)...135.525
1455: The new tanker (I think) is calling himself NATION 1...the others are calling him TEFLON 02...260.9
1457: TEFLON 01 requesting RTB...260.9
1458: NATION 01 is what the new tanker is calling himself and now so are HARASS 35/36...tail number passed to NATION 01...
HARASS 35 = 81-0038, 71st FS
HARASS 36 = 80-0019, 71st FS
(Scramble shows 58th FS Eglin)
Confirm NATION 1 is KC-135R, 62-3576, 133rd ARS NH-ANG Pease (He's now displaying that in Mode-S). Apparently, the HARASS fighters had him as TEFLON 02 on their flight plan. Surprise!

1601: TEFLON 01 gets clearance to Indianhead on his way to Pittsburgh...handed off to ZDC-Hagerstown 134.15...135.525
1603: HARASS 333/34 requesting RTB...260.9....then tell Potomac they're still working on it...350.25
1604: HARASS 33/34 are cleared to RTB...260.9...then to Potomac to pick up clearance to Langley...request descent and clearance direct Langley...350.25 (Potomac seems to be having trouble today hearing the fighters on UHF...no problem with the tankers on VHF)
1607: Potomac finally clears HARASS 33/34 to RTB...hands them off to ZDC-Calvert on 281.4...350.25
1607: HARASS 33/34 check in with ZDC at FL 210 direct Langley...281.4
1609: HARASS 33 requesting lower altitude...281.4...then on interflight tells 34 to "strangle squawk"...360.15
1609: While on 281.4 heard WILD 31 flight of F-16s, DC-ANG Andrews on the way to Pax for some work.
WILD working interflight freq 143.6 and is a flight of four.
1611: WILD flight checks into Pax for 40 minutes of work and requests to work up to FL 350 but are only cleared to 250 for now...354.8

So...HARASS 33/34 are on their way to Langley...TEFLON 01 on his way to Pittsburgh...HARASS 35/36 and NATION 1(or 01) have the CAP and I'm about to run out of time for this message (2 hour limit for editing) so will call this message toast.

Bringing the RODEO list forward and adding a few more that are flying...
Sure would like to be able to hear it...radios must be non-stop chat out there. Friend tells me several T-1A types have gone into McChord today too (perhaps bringing in viewers)
RODEO 10 = C-17A, 99-0165, 62nd AW
RODEO 13 = C-17A, 99-0058 62nd AW
RODEO 19 = KC-135R, 58-0092, 92nd ARW
RODEO 21 = C-130J, 08-8601, 37th AS

RODEO 50 = C-17A, 05-5152, 535th AS
RODEO 52 = C-130H, 73-1582, 39th AS
Several other C-130s arrived at McChord using their unit callsigns that should turn into RODEO aircraft as they take their turn in the exercise. Among them were KANTO, HAZRD, DEUCE, BULL, ANVIL callsigns that I've noticed. That RODEO 38 arrived as FAME 88 and changed his callsign while in the air just as he approached McChord.

Ref below: Many thanks for the report. I sure couldn't copy any of the details from here at those altitudes.

A lighbulb just lit up...the tanker that arrived in the CAP to replace TEFLON 01 is using NATION 1. I called this a NH-ANG tanker (62-3576) since NH is a regular participant and the hexcode fit for that tail. However, since both that one and 62-3578 from McGuire use the same hex code, this NATION 1 could very well be 62-3578 and be the "Alert Tanker" that used to use SKATER 7 for a callsign. I'd almost be willing to bet that's what it is. If they changed the CAP tanker callsigns, I'd say they've also changed the Alert Tanker callsign. So...
NATION 1 = KC-135, 62-3578, 108th ARW NJ-ANG McGuire (NETTF Alert Tanker)
Yes, I would bet on it. And I'll bet he's cleared back to McGuire upon completion of his shift and be replaced by TEFLON 03.

1600: WILD, flight of four F-16s finishing their work at Pax...request Notingham, Andrews direct...also ask if the unmanned vehicle track is in use...354.8

I`m hopefully not breaking any National Security bounds, because all the following speculation
has been reported in our local press here.
It seems that The First Family is comming to Martha`s Vineyard for a private vacation at the
end of August, alledgedly he will be renting Spike Lee`s house [in which i had quite recently
installed an upgraded HVAC system....]
Most of the public service departments, Town and State Police, Airport authority etc are
reporting being approached by the Secret Service. Also one of the larger hotels here has
confirmed that they have reserved 60 rooms for the Secret Service for that last week in Aug,
so it seems it will probably happen.
Its been a while since we had anything like this, Clinton being the last. I can remember the
numerous C-130 flights into MVY bringing in the Limo`s and other equipement/personnel. I
can even remember seeing the two C-9C`s parked up here before.

I`m curious, should we expect a CAP for this visit? I didn`t have the radios during the Clinton
time so don`t know what happened then. Can anyone advise on any likely freq`s. I would like
to be primed and ready.

Any help/advice getting prepared for this visit would be greatly appreciated.

I would imagine there would be a CAP in place Adrian. As you're aware, this area (along with several others) use 260.9 as Primary for HUNTRESS. The NYC area has used 271.0 so I imagine one of those two will be in play. There will also be either a Boston Center pair of VHF/UHF for controlling access to the defined area or something run by Boston or Providence TRACON areas for that purpose - such as what Potomac TRACON does for this area. Those freqs will be unique since we've got no experience with CAPs over the Vineyard and will have to be gleaned by a monitor in your area. You should be in a very prime location for radio traffic. You're also aware that all these transports for #44 and his equipment and footmen use VHF during ATC movement so you can probably trace a route from here to there and see the ATC Sectors the aircraft will move through. Off list, I'll send you my complete list of NORAD freqs just in case they don't use the 260.9/271.0 freqs as Primary. If they continue to use F-15s from Langley or even Eglin, we should be able to pick up the air-to-air freqs as they move through this area. If it's the 71st FS at Langley, the 360.15 freq should be in use for that. If it's the 58th FS from Eglin, they've got a great many freqs they use and aren't confined to just a single freq. No matter how many curves they may try to throw, finding the primary HUNTRESS freq should be very easy with a simple search. Of course, any CAP will be posted in advance by the FAA so exact times and dates will be available.
http://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.html
That URL will provide the times and dates.
