OK, I am experienced using the original trunker.exe. (command prompt)
I also used T4Win. (That's Trunker For Windows for those unfamiliar)
These earlier programs would save all edited data for the TSYS & TGRPs.

Now I have the RTL2832 Dongle hooked to the WinBook T802 Tablet.
I have SL Simul, Nelson Pk and others displaying with 99% health.
When I edit the Labels of the TGRPs and Radio IDs,
Everything looks good. But when I close Unitrunker and shut down the tablet, The next time I run Unitrunker, all of the labels are gone.
Only the ID numbers are showing as if I was running UT for the first time.

So what is needed to make it save and show the edited data?

And BTW, I can't DL data from the RRDB because I don't have a paid subscription.

My autosave has never been on. It asks you when you close the program if you wish to save the data.

Click yes.

Are you monitoring this site?

Nelson Peak Site Details (Utah Communications Authority)

It sounds like nothing is getting saved. How do you start the program?

For example,

(a) do you click on a short-cut saved to your desktop?
(b) select the program from the Start menu?
(c) navigate to the EXE under \Program Files\ via Windows explorer?

When the program runs, is your radio configuration still there or is that also gone?

I am monitoring 7202 site 3 SL SIMUL, 853.1125.

When I DL & installed UT on this tablet, a shortcut was created on the desktop.
I start it from there.

The last time I re-started UT, I had to re-add the RTL8328U.

On the Universal Trunker screen, I now have this path:
C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Unitrunker\S00000005

Auto-save is selected.

XP = cross patch
MS = multiselect

In a cross patch, multiple talkgroups are temporarily merged into one. If groups A & B are merged (patched), everyone in group A can hear group B and vice-versa.

In multiselect, the dispatcher speaks to multiple groups at once. Replies stay within their respective groups.

The Patches tab shows which groups have been combined.

Sure.

You can force a save by clicking in the save button over the Archive tab.

Your archive shows you have twenty successful saves - one current and one through 19 prior revisions.

Make sure you run the program the same way (eg. through the Start menu or your desktop short cut). Beware a prior version created a bad short cut so please re-check running from your short cut. If, when run from the short-cut, the program starts up with no radios configured - delete that short cut!

How to edit the Unitrunker.xml data file?

Is there a way to edit the data files?
I have tried without success to add “Labels” to some of the Group IDs in the
Unitrunker.xml file.
The only success I’ve had is by adding them to the active Call History screen of UT.
Note: it should be apparent that I'm posting partial strings here.
Here are some TGRPs when the file is opened with Wordpad:
<Group id="10231" label="FIRE CRASH" color="FF80C0"
<Group id="10232" color="00FF00"
<Group id="10235" color="00FF00"
<Group id="10236" label="FIRE STRUCTURAL" color="FF80C0"
And here are the same TGRPs when opened with Internet Explorer:
I noticed that the data is listed in a different order.
<Group last="20160210224019" first="20160208160554" id="10231" hide="0" label="FIRE CRASH" hits="49"
<Group last="20160210165437" first="20160208160555" id="10232" hide="0" hits="12"
<Group last="20160209160824" first="20160209160325" id="10235" hide="0" hits="2"
<Group last="20160210222925" first="20160208053646" id="10236" hide="0" label="FIRE STRUCTURAL" hits="373"

You can indeed edit the data files manually if you like, but you'll have to be sure to edit it with a text editor and not something like Word or Internet Explorer (if it can even edit it).

I would have thought that the XML format would allow you to place the label (data element) anywhere in the string, but Rick (Unitrunker) would know for sure.

I forget if it's groups or radios, but one of them has Label, Tag, and Use, so be sure you're trying to add the right field to what is visible on your screen. I might suggest editing at least one TG inside Unitrunker and adding something to each field in the configuration, and then look at it in the XML file - that will tell you which field is which and what order they're expected in.

IIRC, it goes Group (i.e. TGID), Tag, Label, Use, Color, Rank, Hide, Lockout, First, Last, Hits, and then there's various fields that may or may not be present depending on the activity in the group.

Well, I Google for a free XML Editor, and found one at Cnet.
Cnet warned me that the program would try to trick me into
installing additional programs. I clicked accept and another
accept/decline screen came up, so after installing, I found
another browser! Also during install my AV caught a Win32
virus trying to get in. But the XML editor does work and it is
simple. Other programs, xml Notepad,Wordpad, IE, are
read only applications. If you make an error in your editing,
XML editor gives you a warning.

Data Files for each system in separate folders?

Ok, I noticed that unitrunker.xml contained all the data from two systems that I ran UT on. The file is growing huge.

On a trip to Idaho, I tried to put the data files of the ICAWIN p25 system in a separate folder I created:
C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Unitrunker\ICAWIN Caribou
When I returned home, I found all the data from all the systems was in the
\Unitrunker\ICAWIN Caribou\unitrunker.xml
<System id="322E000A" type="APCO P25" HAFB,
<System id="7202" type="Motorola",
<System id="BEE0018B" type="APCO P25" ICAWIN
So, is there a way to segregate the data files of the different systems?

Also, what are all the R0000 and S00000 folders for?
Some of them have log files, but must of them are empty.

Unitrunker.xml is where your data on all systems you monitor will live. You could export the systems periodically to separate files if you wanted to save them separately, but the main data will stay in that one file for all the time you use UT. Each system is identified by an XML header block that begins with the word System.

There is a text editor called Notepad++ which is just about the best editor you can get for Windows when it comes to editing text, CSV, or XML files among other formats. It's free and if I recall correctly can be downloaded from notepad-plus-plus.org.

Folders with R at the beginning are where log files for your receivers are kept. Folders beginning with S are where logs for your sites (systems) are kept. They're both meant to be accessed using the "folder" icon on the appropriate window from within Unitrunker.

Never mind!
It is a complicated process, but I figured it out.
I intend to publish my findings in the Utah Radio Wiki.
