usb-uart connection problem

I purchased a serial to usb connector to connect my bc246 to my laptop but each time i plug the cable in it starts a auto find driver..........and can not find a driver for it.....any ideas? uniden tried to sell me there usb cable but i am straped for $

And you did not get a driver disk with the converter? Who makes your converter?
