• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

tad off subject but same concept.i quit trucking traded truck n trailer for decent herd of milk cows. i knew id need a turd hearse so off to the big farm machine dealer and i bought a shiny clean used turd hearse at a low price way too low. but on ticket i read 30 day returns on ALL used machines. anyhow got it home hooked to my tractor turned pto on n lottsa crash bang noises . looked under n severely bent drag chain under axle carrier frame. called n was told we dont repair it. i sat back then asked what about 30 days money back? yes bring it back. hummm/ i proceded to hook it to my pickup then load it full of fresh manure n took it back. they were kinda excited about 200 bushel o free natural fertilizer. as i started to depart i asked if the bit saying all machines are run through the shop means you hook a tractor on n pull em through the shop to park out back? that created a stir.
1 guy that helped unhook it was laughin n said i told em it needs work n boss parked that cain under the axle carrier.

Can someone explain why these used CB's are going for a price that for $20 more you can get it new with factory warranty?

Just as bad on the eBay auctions. More money than brains.

Just wondering..

Aggravating to say the least
Good question, here' my two cents.

Human nature. We sometimes by from the heart and not the head. Maybe we never got the radio we wished for years ago...maybe we had a favorite radio that we sold and want it once more. Nostalgia's also a potent motivator. In my case the Christmas holidays evoke a wave of nostalgia for old radios.

I've been guilty of this going on almost 65 years and continue to this day and am thankful for sites like Ebay, Radioreference, EHam, QTH dot net, QRZ dot com, and dealers like HRO, R&L Electronics and others selling used gear.

73's.

MY GOD, now I've seen everything!

I like to collect handheld CB radios.... the Uniden Pro340xl Handheld CB is the king of JUNK!... it puts out 2.5 watts max from the factory.... it had a terrible receive ... and 99% of the ones you buy on E-bay don't even work ( slide switches for squelch and volume NEVER work)
I would like to get one that worked for my collection.... but the couple I've bought for $10 bucks didn't work........ so there was one with a starting bid of $12.00 and a shipping price of $8.29... I thought I might bid on it as it looked decent, and the channel numbers were lit up.... so maybe it worked????... they normally sell for $10 bucks... but I thought it looked good and for $12.00 bucks I'd try to get it.

well it sold for $145.00 !!!!!!!!! looks like two bidders just kept bidding against each other.... but $145?????? has to be lot of insanity in the world!!!!!

Then theres this....

That is a beautiful piece.... And if you read the description the seller doubled boxes. It with packing peanuts between boxes. .. with it's rarity probably not a bad deal ... I don't know anyone willing to pay that and I'd rather use a new radio with more power and more bells and whistles.... But for the guy that always longed for one.... Maybe it will sell
