• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Out of Curiosity how much coax ofLMR are you using? I have a tri mount I just got and it has rg58 and it’s horrible! I have 9 feet of lmr 240 just wondering if that will work or should I use 14 or 18 feet? I’ll be mostly running a skipshooter s6 or a 102. I don’t think the 102 will do very well tbh because of the swr but I haven’t tried it yet with the new coax.
If the 9 ft will reach it will be fine. No problem.
I'm using about 14 and a half ft myself.

For the money one won’t find better than the PRESIDENT McKinley. IOW, don’t go below this. See other posts threads to that end.

Today, though, I’d search out an ANYTONE AT-5555N v2 due to onboard DSP (NRC-circuit). See info and links in Stryker 955 thread. The CRT-7900 as also referenced.

And, avoid the little Wil. You want a SIRIO 5000 or Wilson 5000
WIIIILSUUUUN all day, every day.

I am running a Stryker 955 and will never look back. The Lincoln II is good also. Both need modded to 11 meters but pretty easy.

If you're yearning for a Stryker 955, but the price is scaring you off consider an Anytone 5555N II. It will do everything a 955 v2 will do at almost half the price!

That's a lot of $$ for just an AM/FM radio, I would want SSB and for less!

Not counting the extra transmit power, how does this radio compare to something like a Uniden 980 SSB? Some other Anytone CBs have a very hard to navigate menu like one knob for everything and you have to push a couple of buttons just to make it a volume or ch knob. How is the transmit audio?

At $220 on a price search, I’m not overly worried. A truck driver of my online acquaintance (@CDX951) is very happy with his. The West Mountain DSP speaker now stays at home and the Quad 6 he had in the truck does also. (Uses a RigExpert 55 to set antenna, etc; not a dumb truck driver).

Mostly set & forget on controls

Air check reports are all favorable.

I think I might favor the K-Po version (see Scotts Radios on Utube for videos and link for what he has). Stryker, CRT, Anytone & K-Po). Well above a U-980, and I see no reason to buy a McKinley now this new board is out.

Several threads on WWDX

I just bought 2 president Lincoln + 2 radio's and a Sirio 5k Perfomer mag mount . Some reason after getting the radio's tuned and swr set I lost interest . Sold all.my equipment and bought me a nice low mile Suzuki Cruiser .

Anyway you want a great solid antenna go with Sirio 5k Perfomer .

The transmit audio on mine has received many compliments from other operators. AM is very close to a Stryker 955 and SSB is great too. As far as mobile operation........once you set up everything that needs setting up via menus, noise reduction(DSP), mic type(Dynamic/electret), mic gain, echo(if you wish), etc., the controls one would normally use, squelch, RF power, RF gain, clarifier, volume, are easily adjusted with decent sized knobs. Changing bands, mode, echo on/off, etc. are controlled by decent sized buttons. The display is easily read both night and day. I find this radio way easier to operate than a 955 due to the 955's controls being way to close together!
I would recommend Scott's Radios if you want it set up properly at a decent price. He seems to be an honest dealer who won't steal you're money and sell you a "splatterbox". He also has some informative You Tube video's regarding these radios.

Thanks very much for the info, just what I was looking for. I don't need one but I want one for some reason. I would probably buy off Amazon and I do my own adjustments, probably better than most.
