• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.
Picked up an XPR 4550, model number AAM27JQH9LA1AN. Made a programming cable. Using mototrbo cps v16 build 827. I get an error when I try to read the radio. "Error 1057, region not supported". It's my understanding that this radio and this cps should work together. Anyone have any suggestions?

Your understanding is apparently wrong --

The CPS at that level is Region Specific and the CPS binary does not match the firmware in the radio.

Not knowing the history of either the device or software not sure what to tell you to change out and I don't have a magic decoder ring for the model string handy.

The radio is a north American radio, it was originally sold by a local shop. The AA in the model number dictates that. (It's also programmed with local channels). It's firmware version is R01.12.02. As far as I know the cps V16 build 827 should be the north American cps.

That version of CPS (as well as others of course) are available in different regionalized versions. Unless you downloaded it yourself from MOL. it's possible it's a different region. Have you read any other NA radios with this installed version of CPS?

I've seen an non-NA radio disguised as an NA radio. Just because the sticker says so doesnt mean the radio thinks so. Clearly this isn't the case but you can never be too sure.

I haven't read any other radios. Buddy has a couple and I'm going to see if they read tonight. As far as I could find, build 827 is the north American region. I will have to do more digging.

If I had bought it from ebay or something, I could definitely see that. But I don't think that's the case here.

Again, Build 827, etc., has absolutely nothing to do with the region. 827 was available in every region.
That makes sense then. I thought the build numbers corresponded to regions. Guess I need to try to find the cps for the correct region. Thanks

Well I got the right version and was able to get it programmed. Now if I can just find the RSS for a stack of 1225s, maybe I can get my workbench cleared by spring.

Thanks for the help.
