• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am programming an XTS5000 in receive only. When programming in the rx frequencies some are turning red. I have confirmed the frequency is within the band as I can put in a lower frequency.

Frequencies turning red: 772.65625 773.43125 774.13125 774.63125
The following frequencies work: 773.58125 773.83125 774.08125 774.33125 772.00000 773.00000 last 2 were a trial

The frequencies that work are .25MHZ spacing and the frequencies that do not work are on a different spacing.

Any help on how to program these would be of great help. Thank you in advance!!

You didn't specify conventional or trunked entry. If conventional, you'd need to temporarily deselect "Receive Only" then to back to the
Zone Channel Assignment and change the "Tx Opt Transmt Dev" field for the channel to a value of 2.5 KHz before CPS will permit the desired
channel frequency. In other words, in the case of a conventional channel, the channel deviation sets the frequency entry steps.

In the case of trunking control channel entry, the ASTRO25 Channel ID (Band Plan) is the controlling factor along with selecting the correct
identifier in the band plan for each frequency entry into the control channel table.

I'm gonna guess trunking, looks like the frequencies on the Lathrop 700 site in MO on Moswin. Maybe not of course but seems the ones in red are all there.

Thank you that was the problem. I knew that looked wrong but could not figure out how to change it.

Follow-up question I am trying to add the channels to a scan list, conventional. As K9KLC noted, I am trying to setup different MOSWIN sites into zones and scan conventionally. I setup Zone 1 for a site and I am able to scan those channels with scan list 1. I setup a second zone and scan list for the Lathrop site. I am getting an error on the conventional personality when setting the scan list to anything other than none.

You have to fix something about the scan list, and without seeing it, we have no idea what.

Here is the scan list. It looks just like the working one except the zone and channels.

Yea I have no idea what you are doing.

I'd hate to beat this dead horse, but just buy a scanner.
Thank you for the vote of confidence. I was using the codeplug that came with the radio as a start. I created a whole new codeplug and it worked as it should. Don't assume people are incompetent when they post here.

We do. We see it every day!!!

Looks like you are trying to scan a trunk site in conventional mode. You will be able to hear traffic however wont be able to attribute who its for as you will not be trunking per se.

I didn't say  you didnt know what you were doing. But you were struggling with something as simple as a scan list while playing with fire. Meanwhile a scanner will give you everything you are looking for and its not as limiting as conventional scanning voice channels.

Glad you got it working though

This site used to be a good location to post a question but sadly it has turned into something else like many other forums. Full of people with knowledge that want to clout their superiority over others who ask a simple question when struggling with a simple solution. Who would rather belittle someone than offer a suggestion that would take less than 5 minutes of someone's time to try something as simple to say try starting from a fresh codeplug. Thank you to those that actually offer assistance in these forums.

David (K2NEC) is just being his normal self. You'll get use to it, he just doesn't know how to help people in a good way.
But, he does know how to react to the postings by pooping on them.

On the contrary, they're just pointing out that folks who have little knowledge of how these systems and radios work should not be obtaining and attempting to program them. We have far too many of those show up here expecting to be led by the hand in this stuff, and sooner or later one of these folks will get into major trouble, legal and otherwise.

Unless someone has a great deal of experience with commercial radio programming, conventional and especially trunking programming is not something a neophyte should attempt.

"Get a scanner" is sound advice for such folks.
