You need to enable VOX (voice activated) function on the RT3S. Which you would do in the programming software:

Once you do that, the radio will transmit whenever it hears sound, without pushing the PTT button.

So if you have the headphone jack of the PC, routed into the microphone jack of the RT3S, whenever the computer makes a sound it will Tx thru the RT3S.

Okay that's a go.......reprogrammed RT3S to some channels with vox......
Getting bad feedback(?) On Tx on ZW though, should I be adjusting audio or vox settings in legacy app......
Thank you so much for your help....this is quite an important experiment for us as a Response team.....If I can get this to work, it may help our comms resiliency....

If it's really feedback (like when a microphone gets too close to a speaker at a concert and starts squealing):
On your laptop, assuming it's a windows PC. Navigate to the control panel -> sound -> Recording tab -> find your recording device (the one with the green check mark) -> Properties -> Listen tab -> Make sure "Listen to this device" is NOT checked off.

If it's just an annoying static or hum:
You may have the laptop and RT3S plugged into the same power source (wall outlet), which can cause a ground loop (can test it by taking the RTS3 off the charging base, or unplugging the power supply from the laptop and running it on battery).
To fix a background hum, you'll have to buy a ground loop isolator from amazon or some place, and plug it in-line with the cord between the speaker/headphone of the RT3S and the microphone of the laptop.

This is what you need for the annoying hum.

I'm new to the whole Zello thing, but here's what I have going right now.

I wanted access to my control base for my repeater via Zell (M1225 UHF).

I'm using Zello Version 2.6 on a Win 10 mini-machine with a USB sound card (mic in, headphones out).

I changed the Zello.config file as such:
"SetGatewayMode":true,
this turns it into a gateway.
I'm using a USB serial adapter to use the RS232 RTS command to "key" the M1225.

I set up a group on Zello for my ham friends and set up the PC as a user, and it is a member of the group.
I can get audio from Zello to the radio, and I can get PTT derived from the RS232. So I can remotely key up and talk to the repeater via Zello.

What I can't do is get the UHF radio's audio to VOX into the PC's Zello Gateway App. It will show "Activity" on audio but "No" on the "Sending" line, thus will not communicate to the Zello group.

Any thoughts on troubleshooting for getting the radio's recieve audio to activate the Zello group?

Thanks,

Are you using PIN 11 and PIN 7 out for the audio? The M1225 connector is upside down from the Maxtrac & CDM series.

I'm not even there yet. I can't get the COR (high or low) to key the Zello app to feed radio's receive audio to the Zello PC app. I'm in breadboard mode to work out the kinks. So far, I can't get the COM port to "key" the Zello app. I'm well aware of the 16-pin Accessory plug.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but I don't see a "free" way to set up Zello. The only option I see now on their website is for a 14-day free trial of Zello Work. How does one now create an account and channel and use it for more than 14 days without charge?

For context, I want to use Zello to create a private stream from my Windows PC running SDRTrunk to my mobile iOS device without exposing the Windows PC to the internet via port forwarding. I'm looking to set this up on a corporate network to stream to a device outside the network.

Did you figure out how to get the COR to key the Zello app? If not, this may help:

Also, my 6pin to 16pin accessory plug didn’t have an internal connection to the required pin, so I had to install a jumper.

Goal is to program a COR high (+5v) and connect it to pin 6 or the SQL pin for Zello.

The R1-2023 came with a slightly different plug with different labeling and works properly out of the box. No need to feed any additional voltage to make it work. Perhaps they fixed it in production. Mine is brand-spankin' new.

THANKS!
