...car, but he wouldn’t have it. After Johnnie died when I was about 14, they gave me his scanners. I could use the low-band one as he had the crystals for the Illinois State Police District 2 and the statewide (42.50) channel and the WI and 46 MHz. fire channels occasionally had skip on them...

I had my Bearcat III with mostly police crystals in it, and my Bearcat 210, which I had just bought from a coworker who paid $20 for it, and sold it to me for $40, it was 2 weeks old! The abilty...

Recommendation Requested - Inexpensive receiver for single frequency analog VHF 24/7 reception

All of them will require some form of programming. You might find sellers on e-bay that will do a limited amount of programming as part of the sale. Other than that, find an old/used programmable scanner. Anything else is going to need programming or crystals.

    Scanner Tales: Radio Shack Stuffage

Some great memories being posted here about Radio Shack. I, too, miss Radio Shack. My introduction to Radio Shack wasn't for the scanners, crystals, or parts, it was for their stereo equipment. I had an uncle who turned me on to component stereo systems in the 1970's. He had all high-end...

Morgan County Noob! Where to start?

Many years ago, I had an old Bearcat scanner you changed the crystals in. It's been gone a long time. Family just bought me a BCD996P2 (and I got ProScan), and I'm thankful. But a lot has changed since the analog days. I think I got it scanning out of the database here, but it seems to just be...

Springfield Ohio Fire Police move dispatch and main channels during Haitian problems

...tunable VHF radios I built with my two hands and a soldering iron/gun. I gradually moved to those wonderful Bearcat crystal scanners. Got my crystals at Lafayette Radio on Belmont or the other radio/tv supply house across from Ferncliff. Those were the days of low band VHF and high band VHF...

    Scanner Tales: The Regency Years

Hello from Georgia. I just attempted to revive a Relm RH256NB after 15 years of storage to back inservice on legacy analog system with the County fire department but the top row of keys (123) do not work, the flat ribbon to the keypad was loose so I removed and looked for obvious sign of...

    33.820 Indiana?

I just grabbed a really nice, mint Realistic Pro 16A from marketplace. It was fully loaded with crystals for lake county Indiana. It's fun to see what people used to listen to. I've identified 14 out of the 16 frequencies, but one of them has me stumped. It's 33.820. Google hasn't really...

...from calling me when they stopped a guy they suspected of criminal behavior who had a scanner. They would read off the frequencies on the crystals or on the display (if they had one of those new-fangled programmable scanners) and I would tell them what that frequency was for. One day one of...

    Bossier Parish Public Safety Reband?

    Scanner Tales: Radio Shack Stuffage

...been out since 1976 or earlier, but I didn't have the money at the time. We moved to another state and it would have cost $40 to update the crystals in the Regency, so I didn't do that. I waited until I had the bucks for a BC-210. Shortly after I bought it the BC-220 came out. It had 20...

    Scanner Tales: The Regency Years

...a modest antenna on the roof of that lab could pick up now. I moved out of that state in 1981 and the 80's brought a lot of new toys. I wish I had my ham license when I was in New Mexico, but then again, I remember most ham radios of that time required crystals and handhelds weren't all that...

RCA 16S300 police scanner: can anyone tell me anything about this scanner? What year was it made?

...one today!! There are 2 active channels in mine, one in the Public Safety band and one weather channel on 162.550. There are 3 low band VHF crystals in it (I think) for the Oklahoma highway patrol on 44.7 and 44.9. QRP Labs now sells programmable crystals so I may try one out in this radio.

Lakeshore Electronics didn't close per say, they moved to Fima Crescent in Etobicoke and later to Meteor Drive, where they continue to do business. At some point the business "split". Scanner Tales: We can be the Good Guys sometimes
