Scanner Tales: My Programmable Bearcats from the 80’s

Gee Rich, I thought you were going to post some photos(!) Here are some of my oldies... My BC 210, like others who have posted, still works. Still got the owners manual, copyright 1977. Bought it from the very long gone Speigel Catalog, in Chicago. Secondly, my avatar is my very first foray...

    Scanner Tales: The RCA 16S400

Please let me know what you come up with. I think I would have a lot of fun with a ProgRock2 if I could use one to substitute for a 10.7 IF crystal on the 16S400.

    33.820 Indiana?

Here are all the organizations that have been licensed for that freq in Lake County. Search any freq on the page I linked and as long as it's not licensed weirdly as a paging channel or anything that's not part 90 it should show up. https://www.radioreference.com/db/browse/ctid/737/fcc I'm...

Scanner Tales: The Other Radio Stores

...It was conveniently located across a small street just south from the Anaheim Henry Radio store. Mainly carried scanners and a lot of crystals, and a few CB offerings. I don’t know who was there first, but it was a shrewd decision to move next to another electronics/communications store that...

    Motorola EXPO - crystal installation

Did the crystals come with resistors? UHF radio? Motorola color coded the crystals and supplied a corresponding resistor to install for temperature compensation. I once had a radio, that despite the proper install, the receiver was netted 1 KHz off. Never could correct it.

BCD325P2/BCD996P2: BCD996P2 - Hold button usage stops reception of transmission

wish I could be of more help..I did the crystals too! Was easier in some ways, but issues like this with the 996 keep us engaged. Hopefully someone else can throw some light on this. It almost sounds like there is a component like a capacitor that is holding its charge too long and then it...

Scanner Tales: The Other Radio Stores

...far away that sold CB and Scanners- in fact I bought my first 4 channel Fannon-Courier handheld there- the big problem was they did not sell crystals so it was off to Radio Shack to complete the mission. Then through my subscription to Monitoring Times and Popular Communications I learned of...

    South Texas

Would have sworn they were at 45 MHz, I remember the techs at the shop I hung around at back then swapping crystals and re-tuning some state radios, 45.150 is what I remember but that was WAY back in the past - I "volunteered" part time work at a local radio shop back in the late 60's to early...

Yaesu: yaesu ft101b only transmitting on 7mhz

I will preface this with I am not familiar with the B model. In the FT-101E, there were multiple crystals installed. One pair for each band. There was a small hatch where you could plug them in at. I know that Yaesu sold entry level radios that only came with one band's worth of crystals and new...

Scanner Tales: The Other Radio Stores

Here are a few that I frequented over the decades. Some I have mentioned before but they deserve to be included anyway. In no...

    Scanner Tales: The girlfriends

...girl saw my scanner while I was walking thru the mall and asked me about it. She had a scanner herself and was having a hard time finding crystals. As it turned out she knew my sister and we dated for a while. Another girl I dated around that time had no clue about scanners but did have a...

Scanner Tales: The Other Radio Stores

...70's, I don't recall if it was Peoria, Bloomington, Decatur or maybe Springfield but they also had several Regency scanners there and the crystals for the local Tower, Ground and Unicom channels. I used to love playing with that Icom, I would listen to Palwaukee Tower on it all the time, even...

Got to play with the latest and greatest models of radios, there were so many brands. A candy store for adults.

Looking for crystals for some of the railroad frequncies

Several online places and eBay. Here's one but have no connection and have not used there services, so mileage may vary. Looking at the cost of the crystals, it's going to add up but nice to see an old xtal controlled scanner! http://www.kenselectronics.com/lists/scanxtal.htm

Yaesu: yaesu ft101b only transmitting on 7mhz

No the only crystals used on the FT-101's was for WWV. Check and clean the wafer switches on the band switch they are notorious. Carefully look for burned contacts These Fox Tango's do not take kindly to hot switching. Hose, and I mean hose, the whole gang switch assembly with something like...
