No the only crystals used on the FT-101's was for WWV.
Check and clean the wafer switches on the band switch they are notorious. Carefully look for burned contacts These Fox Tango's do not take kindly to hot switching. Hose, and I mean hose, the whole gang switch assembly with something like CRC QD Electronic Cleaner or another similar circuit board cleaner. After this carefully spray the switch with Caig DeOxit. While you are at it pull all of the boards and anoint the contact edges and sockets with the DeOxit. This band switch assembly is the achilles heel of this radio. If the band switch assembly has burnt contacts I am afraid that is it for the radio. Replacing one is ticket to insanity. The Yaesu's FT-101's are not aging well. its finals are total PIA The American made 6JS6C is not a direct replacement for the Hitachi version. I have had several Fox Tango's and the best way to repair one it to give it away to somebody and purchase a Kenwood TS-520/530/820/ or especially the TS-830S the 830S is the best hybrid Amatuer radio tranceiver ever made.
In your case it is funny you only have 40 meters because more often than not if the bandswitch is bad you have everything but 40 meters.
There never was a service manual for the Fox Tango's the bible for this radio is the International Fox Tango Bulletin. It was published 10 times a year for 14 years. everything you need to know about the FT-101 is found in this journal.
