0.0125 Frequency Gap

108-136.9875, 137-174

Alright. I gotta ask. Who or what hideouts in this small little
minuscal gap of coverage in the Pro-96?
Okay so it is probably NOTHING to worry about, it is just
that I am curious. :)

It's not a gap. 136.9750 136.9875 137.0000 - three adjacent channels at 12.5 kHz spacing.

Really? Casue when I search for the Pro-96 on the RS website.
THat is what it looks like: a frequency gap.
Am I missing something?

Either you or the spec writers are.

The actual usable coverage is 108-174. There's no channel between 136.9875 and 137.000. It's like specing a TV set as covering channels 2-5 and 6-13. Is there a gap between channels 6 and 7? They say no, you say maybe. It's just a semantic kind of thing.

I think it receives AM 108 - 136.9875 and FM 137.0 - 174.0.
That is probably why they have the band split into 2 parts like that.

There is no more of a gap there than between any other channel using 12.5 kHz steps.

The spec could have been:
136.9625
136.9750
136.9875
137.0000
137.0125
Etc.


In short answering your question: Nobody. There is nothing between 136.9875 and 137.0000 MHz.

The only other way they could have said it is "108-137, 137-174" but then you would have had people ask what the difference is between the two 137 MHz frequencies.

Those are just the defaults. You can receive FM on aircraft and AM on 136-174 MHz. Granted, you won't hear much on FM mode in the Air band, or much AM in the PS bands, but the scanner does support it.

Actually, there are gaps between channels 4 and 5, between 6 and 7, and between 13 and 14 when you talk about RF spectrum. :wink:

The tech writers probably did that on purpose. As was pointed out, the default on the radio for 108-136.9875 is AM. The default above that is FM. :)

The same "gap" as there is betwewen 136.9875 MHz and 137.000 MHz. There's no assigned TV OTA channel between 4 & 5 etc., and there's no assigned channel between 136.9875 MHz and 137.000 MHz. Are there frequencies between the two? Of course. Frequencies aren't quantized - there's a frequency between any two you can come up with. Frequencies are like numbers - there's no "smallest increment".

You and Joe are arguing apples and oranges.

Al42, you can't say one thing and then defeat your own argument. Read carefully what I quoted above. The "channels" that are assigned between TV Channels 6 & 7, include all of those pesky FM Broadcast Radio Channels and entire VHF Air band including that pesky 136.9875 upper edge frequency you mentioned.

Are there any assigned channels between 136.9875 and 137.0000? No assigned in the US that I am aware of; but of course there are frequencies between them. Are there assigned channels between OTA TV Channels 4 & 5 and 6 & 7? Between 6 & 7, lots; between 4 & 5, not so many, of course they are not TV channels, but they are channels all the same. :)

I wonder if we can either leave this part of the argument here and return to the topic or do I lock the thread?
