just picked up 171.800 very loud in connecticut. analog. with a private line of 167.9 . i was doing a
search and every once in awhile it would come in. its not in the clear. but very loud. any ideas as to
the station is? im in new london county. two hours from n.y.c and one hour from rhode island.

If you get the PL 167.9 it's in the CLEAR
If you don't get the PL it's either P25 or DVP/DES [Analog]

Using PL was the way to avoid hearing the annoying DVP/DES encryption and only hearing the "CLEAR" traffic.

You are hearing the FBI. This has been reported as 3 different sites.
a.) Groton b.) Bolton - Box Mtn c.) Sterling - Ekonk Hill d.) Maybe others?

See what you hear [at the same time] on 167.5125 & 169.9500

also 407-420 the only thing i hear is 171.800. very very strong. im not hearing any voice.
i have a older radio 785d with the digital card. i now know i have to buy a new radio.
one that picks up nac.

Noproblemo.

If your picking up CTCSS aka PL then it's not P25
Wondering if someone is sitting on the MIC or the Telco is experiencing problems
and locked the Transmitter on...

Anyone else in the same Area?

171.800 at 7am womans voice giving the call letters kex in the clear analog in connecticut. first time
i heard voice on that frequency.

CT folks, you have it identified!

AL guy, you do not. But without more info you can't identify it.

This looks like it might be a Justice pool frequency. It could be assigned to any branch of the dept. Or it could be locally assigned if not used by any agency. But you can't assume if it is FBI in one area, it is FBI all across the country. Only a few well-planned freqs have that distinction.

Down here I have not heard anything on it. Old IRAC tables say it could be reserved for Capital Police or Park Service.
